Hazards of the job. 😅 Hot take - corporations should provide demo access to their portals so that we can see the quality of their UX before choosing a bank, lender, credit card, etc.

I'm so glad she was safe! My in laws moved away from Delmar & Goodfellow last year, it's really sad to see so much damage in a neighborhood we spent a lot of time in.

Title - Data in Media: The Big Government Money Pipe Freeze
Earlier this week I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts - Planey Money. Their guest, Lauren Bauer from the Hamilton Project, is a policy expert. She wanted to monitor government spending to see how DOGE has impacted spending - which payments were frozen, and which are still flowing. The episode is a great short story featuring data engineering, APIs, and high stakes data analysis!

The visual continues to a small multiple chart with trends for each spending category, showing the 7 Day Moving Avg of Treasury Outlays for Nov 2024 - Feb 2025

And finally, sharing critiques doesn't automatically make you an asshole. However, publicly sharing abrasive, unnecessary critiques that aren't helpful or actionable is asshole behavior.

If I could change one thing about the chart it would be the flipping the color legend order to match the diagram order. This chart is clearly for a specialized audience, and I'm confident that it serves the purpose it was designed for. Not everything has to follow Best Practices.

120

Felicia Styer @graphhopper.bsky.social · 07/01/2025

So many thoughts on this thread. First, I disagree with the critiques! These colors are fine, not great but not godawful. The pathways are cramped, but clear and easy to follow if you take a minute to read the diagrams. The path color variation is clearly from layering.
