Earlier this week I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts - Planey Money. Their guest, Lauren Bauer from the Hamilton Project, is a policy expert. She wanted to monitor government spending to see how DOGE has impacted spending - which payments were frozen, and which are still flowing. The episode is a great short story featuring data engineering, APIs, and high stakes data analysis!

So many thoughts on this thread. First, I disagree with the critiques! These colors are fine, not great but not godawful. The pathways are cramped, but clear and easy to follow if you take a minute to read the diagrams. The path color variation is clearly from layering.
