Not "years to come" - centuries, if we're lucky. Millennia, if Greenland and/or West Antarctica have tipped.

Every Saturday the people of Skibbereen turn out in solidarity with the people of Palestine. That’s 3 years of it now. Israel’s slaughter, torture, rape, starvation, aided and abetted by the US, the UK, Germany, etc. Shame on the ‘West’ for being up to their necks in this abomination.

Yes. Polls show widepread concern about climate change among the people of most countries. Except the polls that matter, of course.

I was a network engineer in the late '90's and inoculated a lot of computers from the Y2K bug. It was easier and faster than a typical windows update and we had years to do it. It was no big deal (but would have been if we'd ignored it!). Nobody panicked.

But the point is that we MAY have passed peak emissions already! We may no longer be making the problem of climate change worse, faster. We may now be making it worse a very small bit slower. Not enough to save us from catastrophe, of course, but a possible milestone nevertheless! ends/

Graham Caswell @grahamcaswell.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
And don't forget, emissions rise and fall with the economy. A recession following an AI bubble collapse, for example would depress emissions. A boom would increase them. To get a reduction deep enough and a trend long enough to be 100% confident could take a decade or more. 4/

Of course, we won't know if this is the case for years. Hormuz and Russia reduce supply and thus, through higher prices, reduce demand. It may be years before we get a 'clean signal' without these distortions. But keep in mind, during those years renewables will be growing and getting cheaper. 3/

Graham Caswell @grahamcaswell.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Given the falling costs and explosive growth of renewables, therefore, it is possible that we have passed peak CO2 emissions. Its possible that emissions will continue to fall (albeit slowly) from now on (more or less) and that record annual levels of emissions are behind us. 2/

Graham Caswell @grahamcaswell.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
We're near peak CO2 emissions. Interrupted only by covid lockdowns, emissions have been creeping upwards, but more and more slowly till we're almost at a plateau. This year emissions will fall as a result of Trump's war against Iran helped by Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries. 1/🧵👇

Russian and US vetoes are a big problem. Why not change the triple lock to allow UN General Assembly approval in lieu of the Security Council? That would keep the triple lock while allowing the dysfunctional Security Council to be bypassed, setting an example for others and moving towards reform.

How much is a strong community worth? Or the enjoyment of a good book? Or a healthy relationship? Or a stable climate? I suspect this is a measurement problem, and that numbers quantifying income, wealth or tech ownership are no longer as representative of wellbeing as they once were.

There are discrepancies in other countries too, although not as big as the US. Meanwhile Credit Suisse says US median wealth per adult in 2022 was $215,146 (see below). No idea what's going on, but I suspect the higher number is more accurate. dataroom.carbogatto.com/u/www/files/...

You do know the difference between the average (i.e. 'per-capita') and the median, right? The vast majority of Americans make nowhere near an average income.

This is nonsense. Ireland's GDP is grossly inflated by US multinationals running profits through the country for tax purposes. For this reason, Ireland uses Gross National Income (GNI), stripping out that effect. In 2025 Ireland's GNI per capita was $87,360 (PPP).

It is a statistical fact that the average person has one breast and one testicle. And it is an observational fact that the vast majority of people earn nowhere near average incomes and emit nowhere near per capita emissions. On average, averages are cartoons that hide a lot.
