Gave a talk about @sierraclubcanada.bsky.social at my alma mater, Marianopolis College. One Shanghainese student was so happy to see another Shanghainese person that we chatted in Shanghainese after the talk. She told me, “It’s so cool to have such an accomplished and inspiring person here!” 😭😭

J’ai aussi appris des années après avoir fini le secondaire que je n’étais pas la seule à mon école à avoir subi ça et que d’autres amies de mon âge à d’autres écoles au Québec avaient aussi vécu ça.

Quand il y a eu #metooscolaire durant la pandémie, j’ai pleuré. Parce que finalement, on en parlait et on cassait le silence sur ce sujet (j’ai gradué du secondaire en 2014).

C’est épouvantable, mais ça ne me surprend pas. Il y avait une épidémie de harcèlement sexuel quand moi j’étais au secondaire. J’ai été victime pendant des années de ça par un enseignant et par des élèves. À l’époque, personne n’en parlait. Je me sentais très seule.

A weird first of my journalism career. I was at an electronic music concert & someone who was high tried to pitch me an article idea upon learning I was a journalist. I’ve been pitched article ideas in all sorts of ways throughout my career, but getting a pitch from someone who is high is a first.
