Traded PRs and KOMs for exploring my city with Squadrats.com - a tile bagging game for cycling and walking. The smaller squares force you to see places in more detail. Today on my way to work I detoured a bit to get a few extra. Still a ways to go in this part of town. #cycling

I must have been about six and fell asleep in the living room while everyone watched tv. Woke up to see the protagonist opening his dead brother’s coffin after being called by him.

It took me until I was in my 50s to finally figure this out.

Out early to greet the sun. No cars and over 10 skunks 🦨 in the first 5km so had to take it slow. #toronto #cycling #bike #morning #scarborough

Best pre-dawn views. #cycling

A beautiful initiative in Aarhus, Denmark shared by @CiaraNi@mastodon.green over on Mastodon. They say: "The Pssst Postbox. You post a note about something hopeful for the world. Once a week, a local theatre group collects the post and records the messages. #Hope
Short version: a wooden postbox outdoors. Fuller description: A light-brown wooden postbox on a pavement area. Behind it, a city building with glass arch, a tree, a bench, bikes parked in bike stands. Sky overcast. Above the postbox, a sign saying Pssst. On the postbox above the flap, an illustration of an ear with soundwaves showing it listening to something. On the flap, the words Lift and Listen. Written below, a description of the project as roughly translated and summed up by me in the toot, and credits for the various groups involved. This is in Aarhus, Denmark. The postbox was in concert hall park recently, I think it moves around.

Hindi class cancelled so got outside early. Glad I did - not many days like this left in 2026. Have to enjoy the warm rides while we can. #toronto #cycling #bike #morning

Year round cyclist here in Toronto. Lots of us here though more in downtown areas. The roads are clear and I'm warmer than when I wait for the bus. Streets are dry. Even the multiuse path is clear as you can see the morning after a snowfall. Toronto Bikeshare also runs and is used year round.
A multiuse bike path under hydro lines with a little bit of snow on it. The ground aroudn the path is snow covered and there is a single evergreen tree on the right foreground. It is early morning with light just dawning and a few clouds in the distance.

It may be beneficial for those who can do so to try to reproduce it to help with the investigation.
A toot on Mastodon from @intransitivelie@beige.party which says :"I regret to inform everyone that my copy of QBittorrent escaped its sandbox last night and downloaded a whole bunch of content owned by major corporations, and then my copy of Jellyfin broke containment and added those unfortunately-downloaded media files to its various libraries. I'm conducting an internal investigation to figure out how this happened, which will involve consuming these media files until the answers become apparent. Thank you for your cooperation during this trying time."

I need to thank @kagi.com for dealing with this issue (upstream provider issue - they created a fix). All looks great now as you can see. Who knew this timeline would require helpdesk tickets such as this? Not on my bingo card.

Wow that was delightful! It 100% nailed me as growing up in Vermont despite the fact that I no longer call subs "Grinders" and it didn't ask what a soft-serve ice cream cone is. (Now it's a soft serve ice cream cone but when I was a kid it was a "creemee") (Shoot - keep getting the wrong link/image)

Hey @kagi.com - I'm really disappointed to see this at Kagi Maps. Your app has my location as you can see and still you serve up the wrong name for the lake to the south. As a paid service, I expect more from you than this. As an American company you're lucky to get my money at all.

Last nights #criticalmass was amazing. Maybe I’ll actually see some of you there next month. If you haven’t gone before this is pretty much the vibe. As one person there said, they just hang out in one spot, enjoy the vibe and then roll up somewhere else to find different music.

I hope to bring this energy to my day today. This guy (face obscured for privacy) is someone I’ve seen a couple times now on the Finch Hydro Corridor riding with his two dogs in his lap. All three seemed very happy - especially the dogs.

So I suspect we agree there. We also likely agree on the value of infrastructure. We likely agree on the applicability of this graphic as relates to keeping us safe - including the fact that PPE should be the last resort. So I am truly baffled as to the intent short of picking a fight.
A hierarchy of controls graphic showing the most effective methods of dealing with a hazard are in order of most to least: elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls and last, PPE

The "their lanes" also says everything about his attitude. What a dinosaur.
A statement screenshot from Brad Bradford's press release about bike lane policy that says: “I'm a city planner and a cyclist. I want more people on bikes in this city, not fewer. I also want less congestion, and for everyone to make it home safely and on time,” said Bradford. “Toronto is sitting on the largest ravine system in the world and hydro corridors that run for kilometres in every direction. And our residential neighbourhoods have quiet, welcoming streets. Build the network there, keep it plowed in the winter, and everybody gets what they actually want. Cyclists ride without fighting trucks for space, drivers get their lanes back, and businesses get their customers back.” - "Their lanes" is highglighted

With all that’s going on in the world sometimes we need to have reminders of the small things. My partner Sage is drawing and posting messages like these on transit in Toronto. #kindness #toronto #ttc

Yep - sent @shamjiadil.bsky.social and Jon Tsao a message along with @shelleycarroll.bsky.social and Jon Burnside for good measure. This road is NOT a good detour. (CW: high speed near miss on a bike). We need to do better.

Ok this is weird. Why is the only full sized phone booth I’ve seen in Toronto in years outside Drake’s house? Seen on my ride last night.
A photo of a massive concrete wall in front of an even bigger hedge (maybe 20 feet high?) in the left is a huge gate and driveway. In front of the wall is a well groomed patch of grass with a pristine phone booth on it. The phone booth has a “Bell” sign on it and a small walkway leading to it.

Oops. @ridewithgps.bsky.social sent me on another adventure. I think this route was sponsored by local ticks. Easy enough to find a way around though.
A trail that got grassier and grassier. A gate stands in front of a completely overgrown trail of weeds and wildflowers. Trees are on the left and right and the sky is blue with fluffy clouds.

Right - but that was an important move to get them closer to the Bike Pirates' hideout.

This gorgeous heron was waiting for me at L’Amoreaux pond on this morning’s bike ride. I’ve seen them here before but never got a clear shot. Sadly I missed the chance to catch him 10 feet ahead of me on the railing of the footbridge.

My first was a Schwinn Pixie in 1975 - rode it until the solid tires had holes in them! Upgraded to a Vista Clodhopper BMX bike that I rode on our dirt road, logging roads and even to school (No lock required!) Had a road bike briefly in my early teens then taken in by cars for 20 years.

No permission required if someone isn't doing it for money (but I'm not really interested in the project - just in seeing someone else doing it - or even just hearing their stations and stories here)
TTC non-commercial filming policy which states: "Tourists, families, and individuals filming/photographing in public areas for non-commercial purposes do not need permission or a permit, as long as it does not interfere with transit operations or customers."
