I had no issue with the Madueke signing, but it was clear he needed to improve the quality & consistency of his end product. So often his execution is found wanting & it hasn’t really improved, so often he just seems to hit & hope. Same goes for tonight.

He desperately wants to be seen as a man of the people, which is fair enough. But maybe focus on utility bills, fuel costs, poverty, the nhs crisis, mental health & the over-reliance of many on alcohol before enabling a few people to squeeze an extra few pints of crap lager into games.

Doesn’t happen though. If you complain, you cop abuse & get threatened by groups of drunks leaving you & your children frightened. Bystanders, understandably, don’t want to involve themselves in this. Fact is, some people are cunts & alcohol makes them 10 times worse & football attracts them.

So kids & others who don’t want to risk being coated in beer will be forced out, in favour of a minority who can’t stop drinking for 2 hours & treat games like a glorified piss up. I’m all for choice, but every town centre at a weekend shows that there are too many people who can’t be trusted. 2/2

I’m also a ST holder at Didcot Town, also go to Maidenhead and other non-league games when Arsenal aren’t playing. Never have I seen people jumping on top of each other, ever. Maidstone must be more raucous. But my point still holds; people won’t police themselves nor will anyone do it for them. 1/2

I go to non-league games of all levels regularly - goals aren’t celebrated in the same way. There just isn’t a clamour for this rule anyway; Burnham is right that it’s discriminatory, but it also works fine. Focus on the bigger things that fans really do care about.

I’m not so optimistic. Lager in plastic cup, goal goes in, people go mental, everyone gets soaked. It’s not vicious, it’s just a natural event in the circs. No cctv would police that. And what about muslims, recovering alcoholics and others, should they then just be expected to stay away?

Non-league football is a very different experience & the attitude of fans is generally different too. My child got drenched in crap lager at the CL final screening - most blokes with lager in their hands can’t & won’t self police. Nobody is asking for this change.

I read a lot of people feeling sorry for MLS and Gyokeres (which is mad, because there are clear effort issues there), but it’s Zubimendi & Merino I feel sorry for. Why is Bruno automatically in for MLS? And why isn’t Merino a forward option in these away games when he’s been so effective?
