Train to Busan saved me from a week of total mediocrity, everyone say "Thank You, Train to Busan"

Train to Busan (4 stars)
Digger (3 stars)
Weapons (3 stars)
Tetsuo: The Bullet Man (3 stars)

Good Truthboy @goodtruthboy.bsky.social · 07/10/2026

I think that if I'd waited until streaming to see Digger I would have HATED the little credits sting, very smug and self-righteous, BUT seeing it in a theater with a decently large crowd who were either quietly grumbling or entirely mute on the walk out? Yeah it really works lol

It's the sort of movie I'm excited to show my libbed-up grandmother totally blind. Make of that what you will.

Digger: huh! Can't say i loved it but also can't say I disliked it. Deeply weird, fun movie that I'm glad exists so people can be Annoying about it from all directions for years to come

Weapons: good time but Cregger working with a different cinematographer for Resident Evil was the best possible outcome. Often feels like you're watching the whole movie through a puddle of mud.

Find it interesting that Primetime never features any "real" (simulated, obviously) pedophilia, and how this doesn't defang the predators at all. The movie understands them as evil, but it's quite the wrinkle that the only people we directly see them victimize are Hansen's decoys!

After not watching much of anything for the last few weeks, I ended up watching a bunch in just a few days. Think I'll watch Tetsuo 3 tonight, too

Tetsuo II: Body Hammer (3 stars)
Primetime (4 stars)
Christine (3.5 stars)
Hope (4.5 stars)

Minor Primetime spoilers but I love the little bit of trailer trickery in portraying the "don't you want to just...bleed 'em?" scene as the single-minded Hansen easily out-thinking a crazy stranger when in the real scene its just the opposite, Hansen struggling to justify himself

Developing a theory that the reason why UK olds are treated as more of a proper, united political faction than US olds is simply that "pensioner" is a better name than "retiree"

I would love to know if Na Hong-Jin has ever seen the works of Appalachian B-movie legend Don Dohler because his DNA is DEEP within Hope. It's premise is very similar to that of Alien Factor and the opening hour is basically the first 10 minutes of Nightbeast on steroids

Been a good year for movies so far!

1) The Odyssey
2) Hope
3) The Invite
4) Coyote vs Acme

I'll live with MercurySteam's hyper-flashy direction for Metroid so long as they keep moving forward because that trailer for Ravenous (which looks good! I'm excited for it!) just confirmed for me that the oft-requested MercurySteam remake of Super Metroid would be my least favorite game ever

Immortal Thor is cool because it's basically Ewing taking the "superheroes are modern mythology" buzz-phraze way more seriously than it deserves

Cool comic! Fun seeing an Ennis book with an almost adolescent flavor to the to-be-expected angst, very 90s (complementary)

Read the first few issues of Something is Killing the Children--enjoyed it! I love the dull, flat, almost beige coloring, using shitty, hollow exurbs as a setting is a fun hook. Don't care for the action! Dell'edera's art is too stiff for it, there's no flow.

Going to need to sit on this, didn't love it but I don't THINK I hated it? But one quick thing: they 100% wanted Dominic Sessa to play the in-movie camp prick, that was just store-brand Holdovers Kid

Fascinated by this ad for officially-licensed Harry Potter toys from a major brand that 1) uses AI artwork and poster design and 2) misspells Dobby's name

Retailer wholesale ad for "Bark (from the makers of BarkBox) Harry Potter For Wizarding Pups" dog toys featuring a dump bin with an AI puppy dressed like Harry Potter and a stuffed Dobby saying "Hi I'm Dobbie (sic)!"

Been a very "dudes rock" kind of month for me. Dinosaurs, killer robots, action cartoons. This is a teenage boy's Last Four.

Trigun: Badlands Rumble (3.5 stars)
The End of Oak Street (4 stars)
Justice League: Doom (3.5 stars, rewatch)
The Terminator (5 stars)

Heartwarming! In the era of AI, this amusement park ride still sources its wraps the old-fashioned way: with legally-dubious Greg Land scans

Greg Land cover featuring Storm looking up into the rain attached to the side of an amusement park ride. She appears to not have eaten so much as a sandwich in days.

Kirby’s X-Men work was mostly autopilot but there are two classically Kirby ideas still at the core of the mythos: 1) The Sentinels — Flourishing human diversity and creativity (i.e. “mutants”) opposed by the brutal forces of blank-faced homogeneity 2) The Juggernaut — A Guy Is Coming Right At You

Chatting about potential X-Men solo spinoff films with friends and a total capeshit outsider suggested a Sony-esque solo protagonist role for Sabretooth and fuck I'd watch the shit out of that. Just a weird stupid period piece about how Sabretooth became evil that doesn't end with him being evil

Of all things this got spurred by seeing a post on the Marvel/SW collab, the hottest entertainment hook up of 2015. But there's no Buzzfeed, Vox, Vulture, Polygon, The Mary Sue, Grantland, MTV News, Twitter with A-listers on it, etc. anymore. So it'll come and go and that's that.

Dream Warriors is not the best Elm Street but I'm very intrigued by how much empathy it has for Freddy. Yeah he's an insane child murderer but it understands that before that, even before his BIRTH, he was someone let down by systems not equipped to really help people, just like the Dream Warriors

Not to "former gifted kid" post (I turned 25 last week, I am simply too old to be mentally stuck in high school like this) but nothing makes me want to end it all quite like bumping into a high school teacher who really fought for me while I'm at my dead end retail job
