@cidercade.bsky.social is my favorite place to hang out in Arlington, and it's very close to campus! You pay $12/person and then can play as many arcade and pinball games as you want. They also have billiards and pingpong. They specialize in draft ciders if that's your thing. It's 18+ after 9 pm.

I don't understand this argument that it's unfair for people to have health insurance if they don't even use it. Isn't that the whole point? You invest in insurance in the case that you may need it. Not to mention that people should be using it for preventative and maintenance care.

#Costco, please fire whoever changed the packing of your half sheet cakes. The flimsy plastic bottom cannot support the heavy cake, and the top pops off continuously. Go back to the heavy duty cardboard boxes they used to come in. Those could actually support the weight and were easier to carry.

And I'm only taking three of the antidepressants. I can't wait for them to figure out I'm take four neuropathy pills a day. I mean, clearly I should go down to just one of that too. I'm sure it will be fine when I can not only hear my eyes move, but I my skin will be itching from the inside.

The last time an insurance company messed with my antidepressants, I went cold turkey and I COULD HEAR MY EYES MOVING. I had to stop driving because your eyes move constantly when you drive. Which made the intrusive thoughts tell me the best solution was to run people over. So yeah...fun times.

Friend who has been in the restaurant industry forever told me it's pretty common for people to hook up at work. Which is disgusting, and I'm going to pretend that never happens anywhere I have eaten. I told him that no one ever does that in software. He told me they do, I am just that oblivious 🤯

They vote against plans to improve the climate and protect the environment of the countryside they say they love. And they have been for generations. My parents love these places. They seem to think it's some ideal way of life. I don't understand it, because they wouldn't last a day out there without their wifi, chain stores/restaurants, fast cell service, etc. It is like Fox news and Yellowstone has glorified towns with dirt parking lots.

And EVERYWHERE is covered with Trump flags. I've seen barns repainted "Let's go Brandon." Don't tread on me signs are abundant. The far right propaganda has even surpassed the Christian propaganda. Additionally, open carry is the norm. It's very overwhelming for me.

Their roads suck. Utilities are almost non-existent. Their kids have to be bused to go to school. The majority of the businesses are shuttered. There may be a Dairy Queen and a gas station. If it's on a big enough rural highway, they may even have a Walmart. Of course there's a few churches.

I live in suburban sprawl. Most of the rural communities on the outskirts have been taken over by mansion communities. But go even further and you'll find these tiny one traffic light towns. You get a good look at them going through the 30 mph speed trap. 🧵
