one of the reasons it takes me so long to write anything, and why i so rarely write longform, is because i am pausing all the time to read and re-read sentences with both my inner voice and also aloud. to feel the cadence and rhythm of the words (the wave in the mind, as described by Woolf)

the books i’m listening to are Wolfe‘s Book of the Long Sun, narrated (i think) by Michael Scherer. he has a great speaking voice and good control for different characters/affects. which is especially important w this series as Wolfe seems interested in the way speech/mannerisms influence Who We Are

as a writer i’m always interested in writing things as they would be spoken, so my affinity for audiobooks make perfect sense. it’s also why things i write can feel meandering, because i’m coming to the words as i would when speaking: not laying them out, but chiseling away and revealing them.

this is of course a matter of personal taste and also my predilection for altered states of consciousness, fugue, oracular trance, and so on. a book can sometimes be seen as a set of instructions, dictated to one who is receptive to such things, might inspire contemplation and feelings of lightness

not everyone feels this way but i find that there is something so captivating about a good audiobook. they can induce in me such a state that i feel entranced, only able to think of it. little else matters, i must listen to my story

it’s very funny to have posted this and then apparently there are a bunch of issues with image previews and embeds. the smell of death can often be masked with various odours and perfuming agents, but it is extant. no amount of hiding it makes it less real

there’s something i can’t exactly place that visually informs me that a website or applet (is that the term? who cares) was built using Claude. there’s a signature style that is so apparent that it becomes all i can think about, and it’s identifiable even by screenshot alone.
