Teijo National Park delivered four seasons in an afternoon—storm fronts, brief shafts of light, and mirror-calm water. Chasing clouds and waiting for those small, quiet moments. #Finland #TeijoNationalPark #LandscapePhotography #NikonZ6 #Cloudscapes #Reflections
Tall storm clouds hang over a forested lakeshore. A small patch of sunlight illuminates trees on the left while the lake lies dark and calm below.A line of turquoise rowboats tied to a wooden dock on a quiet lake, with dark, brooding clouds and forested shores in the background.A small tree-covered island sits on a mirror-still lake, perfectly reflected in the water. My cartoons for this week’s @theguardian.com books #holiday #vacation #reading
A happy book says:
I'm so proud you chose me as your holiday read! I can't wait to start entertaining you!

A smiling drink says:
And I'm right here! Ready to keep you cool and refreshed while you read!

A gleeful phone adds:
Yay! So great! How about we kick things off with a load of the same old rubbish you always look at, plus some gloomy news and mavbe a few emails from work!!

Hours later...

The drink and book lie untouched.

The phone is out of view but a bubble reads:
Scroll Scroll Scroll Scroll Scroll

The book says
“I hate that guy.”

Found my father-in-law's Lamy ratio fountain pen, likely from the 1950s! It came with a "5-year guarantee" – what nonsense! A little warm water and it's writing perfectly, probably with ink from the 1960s. Still working like a charm. #Lamy #VintagePen #FountainPen #StillWorking #QualityBuild

In the background, on a white notebook, the words "WOW LAMY STILL WORKING" are written in blue ink, with the pen uncapped beside them. The image shows the pen, box, guarantee, and a handwritten note.

Black and white ink drawing of a cartoon by Tom Gauld titled 'Combined Classics: get those notable novels ticked off more quickly!'

Image: a line of four books

1. 'Remains of the Day of the Triffids' by Ishiguro and Wyndham

2. 'Greats: Gatsby, Expectations, Glass Elevator' by Fitzgerald, Dickens and Dahl

3. 'Watership Down and Out in Paris and London' by Adams and Orwell

4. War, Peace, Pride, Prejudice, Crime and Punishment by Tolstoy, Austen and DostoevskyBlack and white ink drawing of a cartoon by Tom Gauld.
Panel one: Two scientists stand beside a complex apparatus. One says:
“We can't be sure of the outcome until we start the machine, but I know it will give us a new and unusual perspective on our world.”
The second scientist flicks a switch.

Panel two: “Well, this is rather more new and unusual than I had expected.” The scientists are now within the speech bubble and the speech is outside it.
Black and white ink drawing of a cartoon by Tom Gauld titled ‘The Life of a Scientist’.

(The life is depicted as a set of steps, three up then three down with a character on each)

Baby: Such a mysterious world!
Child: I must search for answers
Young adult: Each answer leads me to more questions
Middle age: ... At least I've got lots of questions
Old age: Ok, I guess questions are my thing now
From grave: Such a mysterious world!

My cartoon for this week’s @theguardian.com Books
Title: How to focus on writing your book

There follow eleven tiny images telling a story. The captions read:

Turn your devices off (a writer with a phone and laptop. The screens are dark).
Put them in a drawer.
Lock the drawer.
Throw away the key.
Leave the house.
Do not look back.
Keep to backroads and hedgerows.
Feel your old life slip away. (the writer has shed his clothes)
Sleep by day.
Forage in the evening.
Write by the light of the moon
When you have a passable first draft, commit a minor crime and use your phone call to contact your agent. (the naked writer is in a prison holding a phone while an unamused police officer looks on).

Spent some time photographing Raisio’s industrial heart—massive silos, smokestacks, and power lines cutting through the sky. Something about the raw, functional brutalism of these structures feels timeless. #Brutalism #IndustrialAesthetic #Finland #Raisio

The composition highlights the contrast between old wooden structures and modern industry, with a smokestack emitting a plume in the background. The towering utility poles draw the eye toward the center, showcasing the industrial infrastructure that defines this landscape.A striking industrial structure framed by bare tree branches. The silos and concrete buildings dominate the scene, representing the industrial heart of Raisio. The stark contrast between nature and human-made structures is emphasized in this black-and-white shot.A close-up of massive concrete silos, their rough texture visible in stark detail.
