MPOX is still around in Ontario (we had over 150 cases in 2025, mostly in Toronto) but less than half of eligible guys have finished getting 2 doses of the vaccine. Symptoms are NOT a good time. The vaccine protects against severe symptoms in case of breakthrough infection! Learn more at gmsh.ca

In 2025, Ontario had over 150 cases of mpox, mostly in Toronto. March 2026 saw two travel-related cases of the more transmissible and severe Clade 1b strain.

The mpox vaccine used in Ontario is called IMVAMUNE. It's 85% effective at preventing mpox (and it prevents smallpox, too!) It's given in two doses, 28 days apart, is free and does not require OHIP, and is safe for adults 18 and over. Vaccination protects against severe symptoms if you do have a breakthrough infection, so it's still worth getting at least one dose!

Rock Hudson was born on this day 100 years ago. He was the epitome of the handsome, seemingly hetero, Hollywood star. AIDS outed him and killed him. He died in 1985, aged 59. His death shocked the world. For many, he was the first person they knew of to die as a result of HIV.

On August 28, 1971, the historic We Demand Rally took place in Ottawa. Activists and protestors marched on Parliament Hill with a 13-page brief containing a list of 10 demands for federal lawmakers. This would be the first large scale gay rights demonstration in Canada.
