Glyph @glyph.im · 6hFor obvious reasons campaigns are much more able to use money before the absolute last minute. Deadline for the Florida candidate is 10/30 (and I think that's the last one) but sooner is better than later. Hopefully we can get some kind of countdown onto the site to make the urgency clearer 100 1

Glyph @glyph.im · 7h@cks I also get astigmatic halos and occasional diplopia but I find that I can manage those more easily with regular breaks to ease eye strain. We all have to pick our poison though :-| 000 0
Glyph @glyph.im · 7h@cks Dark mode. I have floaters which make light-mode UIs very distressing to use. 100 1
Glyph @glyph.im · 7h@760ceb3b9c0ba4872cadf3ce35a7a4 there's a massive logistical problem with maintaining long-lived forks of different frontends and supporting old "bad" designs forever if people seem to like them. but maybe yeah we should just do that anyway? Glyph @glyph.im · 7hthe "new post" window really highlights how weird modern UI design is everywhere though. why is it in a fake window with a fake close box instead of just being in a window. why is every app its own weird little bespoke window manager. Glyph @glyph.im · 7hokay I've got The New Mastodon and … I guess overall I actually like it? I still kinda hate the way that we collectively roll out UI and app updates where it's Just Different Now, but this is actually addressing some of my complaints and the big squishy rounded corners everywhere don't bother me […]mastodon.socialOriginal post on mastodon.social 201 2
Reposted by GlyphJess👾 @jesstheunstill.infosec.exchange.ap.brid.gy · 19/10/2026Obviously AI isn't alive and doesn't deserve human rights or politeness or whatever else. But as part of "AI psychosis", many people do end up personifying AI agents, having romantic feelings about them, entrusting them with deep secrets, and so on. Glyph @glyph.im · 15has I am writing this I am trying to talk myself out of my own thesis. “surely on truly *important* systems this view is a vanishing minority. surely the center will hold and any truly harmful AI use will be slowed or stopped and this mistrust of updates will not continue to grow“ anyway here’s […]mastodon.socialOriginal post on mastodon.social 011 1
Glyph @glyph.im · 15h@matt I think Recall was a tipping point but also day-to-day stories of failed updates, bricked systems, dead batteries, etc, are so common as to be unremarkable now. the underlying OS also seems to be falling apart in terms of reliability. 110 1
Glyph @glyph.im · 15h@matt windows users have hated windows for decades but in decades of such conversations I have never had a _Windows user_ *yell* at me because they are so mad at *Microsoft* about an update. Glyph @glyph.im · 15h@matt the worst part is that I think surveys aren't capturing the amount of absolute nihilism here because they assume that LLM use implies LLM acquiescence. some developers are using LLMs at work every day because they have to, learning how to use new LLM tools, and also assuming that all […]mastodon.socialOriginal post on mastodon.social 111 1
Glyph @glyph.im · 15hwhen we are talking about the cost of LLMs getting jammed in everywhere with no discussion or consent, this is the kind of cost that just gets blithely ignored, because whatever, we have the control, what are people going to do, just let themselves get hacked? and yeah. they're going to get […]mastodon.socialOriginal post on mastodon.social 112 2

Glyph @glyph.im · 15hThe case I'm usually *trying* to make here is my own middle-path moderate view, that while LLM usage is dangerous and unfortunate and we should try to find ways to discourage it, that we are going to have to accept a certain amount of it and maintain trust that existing maintainers will at least […]mastodon.socialOriginal post on mastodon.social 310 3

Glyph @glyph.im · 20/10/2026Dang y'all showed up fast. Thank you. Less than 24 hours and we are already halfway to our first goal. (The goal is at $20,000 but the campaigns could use a lot more than that, so, let's not limit our imaginations. But it would be a great start to hit that number.) 101 1
