Windows 11 *finally* re-added the ability to move the taskbar to other edges of the screen besides the bottom, and also the ability to make the entire taskbar smaller. Now I can have my XP-style taskbar at the top of the screen again because I'm weird.

I really want to love the Framework Laptop 16, and everyone I know that uses one seems to. But I keep running into tiny yet aggravating issues that make it more difficult, especially since Framework boasts that their products are designed for a "Linux-first experience."

Updating our household gaming/VR machine to Windows 11 has, unsurprisingly, broken authentication to SMB shares. Why? Because the GUI that prompts you for credentials *crashes*. It doesn't matter if the PW is right, wrong, or even if you click "Cancel". It will crash. Very cool feature! /s

GitLab can be self-hosted, and if you want an even lighter alternative, I've also seen Forgejo strongly recommended. Have been considering moving some personal stuff to the latter.

I wish Windows apps (Excel, PowerShell, etc.) would stop outputting files as UTF-16LE and just use UTF-8 instead. Trying to use Unix-environment tools like "grep", even under WSL, just doesn't work on them until they're converted.

I think my biggest gripe with AI usage is that it has taken overly confident people who didn't know what they were doing pre-AI, and enabled them to be even more overly confident and pollute the web with slop, all while still not knowing what they're doing.
