Most of what I do is fail to log into things, change my password, fail again, lock my account, email IT, unlock it, forget about two factor authentication, then rage quit and get nagged for not having done the five minute job two weeks later.

I have several papers submitted at the moment, two of which, both within leading journals, have been under review for 7 and 10 months respectively. I am feeling very calm about this.

For all of those who wanted to get everything just slightly wrong enough to never properly understand anything at all, and still be bored to tears (that's a 'you' problem) while you do it.

Been demoralising watching universities mindlessly embrace genAI "inevitability", mouth platitudes about AI ethics, principles & fairness even as it contaminates & degrades knowledge & infrastructure, undermines learning, erodes trust & creates massive burdens from all the above REFUSE. RESIST👇
Excerpt from Emily Tucker's Open Letter to Georgetown students

"I am not suggesting you should resist a chatbot education because I expect you to have a smooth path at Georgetown if you do. It's definitely risky. And I'm not saying you should resist in spite of the risk. I'm saying you should resist because of the risk. The risk is what helps you remember, at a moment when everyone in authority is (or worse, is pretending to be) suffering from the insane delusion that the future of humanity depends on a computer program that generates probabilistic text strings, that there is something that learning is for, that thinking is for, that work is for, and that you are for, the discovery of which belongs to you. If you start now taking risks that help you remember this, you may become the kind of person who cannot be pushed around by bullies and autocrats, or manipulated by propaganda, or satisfied by a life lived solely for the sake of self-protection and self-enrichment."

For me, this effectively symbolises much of what is unimpressive about AI (yes, I know *this* is robotics, but still). Marginally improved speed with everything that matters entirely removed. A marathon without runners, pointless to its core.

AI marketing really is a triumph of fiction over reality. We all know, basically, that most widely available LLMs are more than a bit silly and way more than a bit dangerous, yet somehow there are countless people willing to throw their lot in with the mega-rich backing them, just on the off chance.
