'"Good Game Design" aims to hide the humanity of their creators and instead replaces it with a set of pre-defined, empty interactions (...) to create a product.' 'What if we treat Game Design as an intentional creative process, and not as a set of rules?' 🔥🔥🔥

i just published a post about my time at @glasgowindiegamesfest.org "When you strip back the commercialism, the urge to “sell”, and with that remove all the predatory behavior capitalism encourages… you are left with something human that creates the groundwork for games to be relevant to everyone."

working on the zine for this years GIGF and remembered my favourite page from last year

Hey!
· i just wanna say it's never been easier
to start making games, there's lots of free
tools for folks just starting out. make weird
games, make something you want to
see! even just as a hobby, even just for yourself
or your friends, donʼt listen to the grind-set youtubers, ignore market demands,
ignore demographics, ignore payment companies,
'Good Game Design' is a myth, art can't be
made out of 'best practices', all design decisions
are specific to the game you are making.
games are a nascent art form, we've barely
scratched the surface of what they can express!
hopefully by creating more spaces like
this we can showcase the incredible things
being made and make people come away thinking
'maybe i could make a game!'

I'll be talking at this year's Glasgow Indie Games Fest! The topic is "Post-Modernism & Futurism in Games". The aim is to poke a few holes in what we tend to *think* we are as a medium, and take a look at what makes us what we are ... Can't wait! @glasgowindiegamesfest.org #indiegames #gamedev
