in a literal way, i’ve heard choosin texas. i remember seeing a news story about it and looking it up and watching the video on youtube. in a practical way, i could not even tell you if choosin texas includes the lyrics “choosin texas” because it was so forgettable.

Seems to me like we're due for a reconsideration—and perhaps even an exhibition?—of the mostly forgotten illustrator Boris Artzybasheff, whose hallucinatory mid-20th-century automation drawings seem eerily prescient right now. this is also infuriating because it ignores the rampant sexual violence in the military. they want a bunch of horny, roided out dudes to live together. this is a formula for rape added to an organization notorious for all the rapes. that is a problem and this bullshit sweeps it under the rug.

one of the funniest things about these posts is how smart they always assume the bosses are. every day, i get asked by someone at work to do something and i do the actual thing they wanted instead. everyone wins! if bosses only get what they ask for, they are fucked.

i don't take 9/11 seriously because lies like this go completely unchallenged while the Muslim mayor of NYC is told that he shouldn't memorialize 9/11 because he's Muslim. the people with power have told me every year for 25 years that 9/11 is a joke and a political opportunity, not a tragedy.

I am currently rereading the Wheel of Time series, an enormous schlocky fantasy epic, and am regularly shocked at how much better Robert Jordan communicates character moments without naming them for the reader than your average contemporary literary novel and how much better his writing is for it.

If I could meet anyone in comics I think it would be Peter Gallagher from the current Heathcliff newspaper comics. They are utterly inscrutable to me. He is a surrealist. I must know his mind
A single comic panel of the comic Heathcliff, Heathcliff the car wanders the dunes looking nauseated and upset, next to him is a sign that says "robot nude beach" a seagull perched on the sign unhelpfully retorts "I tried to warn you". This is without context. I am as lost as you are.

It's always disappointing when journalists choose to lie, even in the NYT. Democrats are not anxious about El-Sayed's electability. They are racist. They may frame their concern around the public being uneasy with Muslims, but they believe that he should not run because he is Muslim. That is racism.

me on the way home to see my lil beefy baby boy
my precious cat Beef, an orange gentlemen, in an undignified repose on a sheepskin rug beneath a footstool. he is on his back, but also on his side, exposing his belly but just barely maintaining his dignity with crossed legs that say “not now” rather than “no”. this pose means danger and any belly rubs will be answered with teeth.

every time i get tricked into clicking a story about a video game, i am reminded how fucking bad good writing about video games is. i cannot think of a single person writing about video games and doing it well. some do it better than others but the best in the biz just remind me how grim it is.

imagine thinking the solution to "parents can't ensure that going to college won't saddle their child with crushing, lifelong debt so they delude themselves into chasing pipe dreams" is to push trans people out of society instead of, like, addressing the whole student loan situation

people realize that Marx’s concept of work and who is a worker has been developed since Marx, right? like, feminist theorists developed a theory of workers that incorporates the unemployed house spouse, the disabled, the unhoused, etc. this has been the status quo for decades.

there is not an honest contemporary definition of incrementalism that includes things like "instituted a rent freeze." incrementalism is resistance to action, so an incrementalist approach to housing reform would include steps like forming a committee, hosting public fora, and other non-actions.

it’s bizarre that as more Jewish people in my life — and i mean people like my centrist 60 year old mother-in-law who’s on the board of her shul and her entire dinner club and mahjong group of similar folks — become anti-zionist, the shrinking group of zionists just gets louder and more nonsensical

i think that when you see a former president out and about you should be allowed to make them lick anything of your choosing once for each innocent person our military killed under their reign of terror. a sewer pipe. your butthole. a popsicle, if you approve of the deaths. this should be the law.
