Just another #teletext mockup of a non-copyright infringing knock-off box of chocolates. I'm quite pleased with how this typography turned out on such a blocky medium.

A teletext page consisting of a red and white design on a black background.

At the top is the word "Nettles" in white on a red blob-like shape.

In the middle are the words "Black Voodoo" in large white capital letters. There is a red horizontal line below.

At the bottom are the words "discover the secrets of the black voodoo chocolate box" in small white capital letters.

Time for another Level 2.5 #teletext recreation of an album cover. This time it is Telex's 1979 album "Looking for Saint Tropez", worth checking out just for their cover of "Rock around the clock"!

A Level 2.5 teletext re-creation of the album cover "Looking for Saint Tropez" by Telex.

An abstract artwork based on a television test card divided into six horizontal sections.

The first section has the word "Telex" in a white calculator-like segment font on a black rectangle set upon a light blue strip with a partial grid of white lines.

The second section is five coloured squares, in order from left-to-right they are coloured yellow, mid-blue, green, pink and red.

The third section in the middle is a black strip with a white horizontal line through the middle interspresed with vertical lines.

The fourth section is alternating black and white vertical stripes.

The fifth section is five rectangles in varying shades of grey, from dark grey on the left to white on the right.

The sixth section at the bottom is a light blue strip with the text "Looking for St Tropez" in white. In the middle of the strip is a narrow red triangle pointing downwards.

With #teletext you never had to muck about with CAPTCHAs. The 30 second or so wait for your selected page to appear was much more bearable in comparison.

A teletext page with the header "captchoozle!".

At the top of the page is the prompt "to verify you are a human, select the image of a car". There are a group of four large icons arranged as a two by two grid of black icons on white rectangular backgrounds. Each icon has a prompt above consisting of a coloured square and the name of that colour next to the square.

The icons are of a tram with a "red" prompt, a tractor with a "green" prompt, a car with a "yellow" prompt and a lorry with a "blue" prompt.

A tribute to the artist David Hockney, a #teletext recreation of his 1967 work "A Bigger Splash". I find it so odd that it's a teletext artwork with palm trees, that is *not* advertising a holiday.

A Level 2.5 teletext recreation of "A Bigger Splash" by David Hockney.

A swimming pool with a diving board on the right. Water is splashing from the pool as if someone has just dived in. In the background is a single storey house with a flat roof and large sliding glass doors, in front of which is a director's chair. To the right of the house are two tall palm trees.

Level 2.5 #teletext has 16 redefinable and 16 fixed colours. But Level 3.5 allows all 32 colours to be redefined. The 16 colours of CLUTs 2 and 3 are redefined, and by redefining a further 4 colours and using 9 remaining colours as is, we can shoehorn in all 29 colours of Joseph's dreamcoat.

A Level 3.5 teletext page showing some of the lyrics of "Joseph's Coat".

The lyrics are:
"It was red, yellow, green, brown,
scarlet, black, ochre, peach,
ruby, olive, violet, fawn,
lilac, gold, chocolate, mauve,
cream, crimson, silver, rose,
azure, lemon, russet, grey,
purple, white, pink, orange and blue!"

Each named colour appears on a rectangle of the same colour.

At the bottom is the text "Rose is CLUT 0:5. Gold, Cream and Lemon are in CLUT 1 and applied with a Level 3.5 only Object."

At the top left is the text "Crudeberry's". At the bottom right is the text "Godley Egg" on a yellow rectangle.

A #teletext artwork of Bertha from the animated TV series of the same name, the huge, slightly sentient but lovely factory machine who could make anything. Some three decades before 3D printers became affordable.

A teletext artwork of Bertha, a green industrial machine with features resembling a face including white round eyes, a red nose and a large hatch like a huge mouth. The top of the hatch has white protective flaps that look like teeth and at the bottom is a conveyor belt resembling a tongue.

Text above and below the machine reads "Bertha, lovely Bertha, you are a lovely machine!"

Were colour bitmap graphics possible in #teletext ? With Level 3.5 DRCS they could have been. But hopelessly impractical; all the bitmap data is stored across 8 subpages and you'd need to wait for them all to come around. Just for that one picture that's the biggest size possible in 16 colours.

A teletext page with a small 16 colour bitmap picture on the right of a Scarlet Macaw parrot sitting on a metal frame.

On the left is the explanatory text "Level 3.5 DRCS. Mode 2 characters, 12x10 pixels of 4 bitplanes or 16 colours. 96 DRCS characters over 384 PTUs stored across 8 subtables. 12 rows of 8 columns or 96x120 pixels."
