I asked some friends of mine to do a few lines of my poem ‘Ode To Square Chapel’ in support of my quest to help #SaveSquareChapelArts in Halifax. Without hesitation… they all chipped in. 🙌 It’s what friends are for. Please re-post if you enjoy! x

On National Poetry Day, here’s a short poem about the power of poetry to change the world.
The Power of Poetry

with things falling apart
and anarchy let loose,

it was only poetry, he found,
which had any use,

so he reached for his copy
of The Complete Works of Yeats

and bludgeoned the President
of the United States

@brenkubler.bsky.social Thanks for the recommendation, Bren. They are lovely. And on special offer at the moment in Intermarché!

Things I was frightened of as a child: Archangel Gabriel blowing his horn on Judgement Day. Snakes under the bed. The back stairs at my convent school. Sister Agnes (of above convent). My teeth falling out. Sleeping with my back to a door or window.

Love the falafel ones. Our best selection is at a little Vival next to our local petrol station.

Hello Bren, Nice to see you. I’ll give those a try. We discovered these this week. Mild but very good.

Persillé crisps (butter and parsley). The picture on the packet shows not only the butter and the parsley but also a garlic bulb.

Page and Plant and Sting - lucky you. I saw them in Birmingham, probably 1995. Did they have the wonderful Egyptian violinists when you saw them? We saw Cohen in Paris and yes, just perfect. And Sharon Robinson sang Alexander Leaving, solo. Left me ‘bouche bée’.

Same here, Lucy. I’m sick of getting up at dawn, doing everything I have to do outside before 10 o’clock, then living like a troglodyte until the evening. And, yes, thank heaven for the internet and a good book.

How are we ever going to plan what we do when, when we will never again have any certainty about conditions?

Much the same here. Gardening has turned into ‘what shall I try to keep alive?’ . Today’s rain is just wonderful - but still not enough.

12mm of rain here so far in Ariège and 19°. Wonderful. Sorry it’s still so hot with you.

The ginger cat I posted earlier is now curled up asleep in the terracotta pot. The markings on his face look like a smile.

Thanks Cheryl. We are going to need them. There is now also a newer plane called a Dash, bigger and faster which can carry a fire-retardant. Those Canadairs on the videos were doing turnarounds of between 6 and 10 minutes. Such skill and courage.

No, they are flown by French pilots - ex fighter pilots for the most part according to last night’s news. And I don’t think these are new planes, I saw them on practice runs near St Tropez over 20 years ago.

Last episodeof the season and I think it's the one I'm most proud of. Origin Story in its most distilled form: telling a tight, thrilling story of the past which equips us to understand the present.

Has America Crossed the Asshole Threshold?
Civilizations can carry a surprising number of parasites and live. But there’s a line — Rome crossed it, the Gilded Age toed it, and for the first time in history, we can measure it.
