UK income tax personal allowance frozen at £12,570 since 2021. If increased in line with inflation, it would be £16,048 for 2026/27. As a result, in 2026/27 someone earning £17,000 will pay additional £696 in income tax and £278 in national insurance. All because govts appease the rich.

What sad news. David Hockney was Britain's great living artist. I loved all his work. My favourite is perhaps Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy. He never lost his Yorkshire accent, nor a taste for tobacco (he was an indefatiguable smoking campaigner). RIP. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The poorest 20% of UK population pay a higher proportion of income in direct and indirect taxes compared to the richest 20%. Dividends and capital gains, mainly accruing to the well-off, are taxed at lower marginal rates than wages. Progressive taxation wasn't part of the King's Speech.
