It's only misinformation if they are misinformed. This is disinformation, funded by the fossil fuel industry.

They missed a beat too - where's wave? Could have had three in one, it was right there.

I find her interviewing to be vile. She doesn't care about gaining an understanding of her interviewee... All she seems to care about are soundbites. The question about Sturgeon's sexuality was just so inappropriate and sexist. I don't believe for a second that she'd ask a man that.

I suppose they could argue you don't have to be a raving biggot to trash the planet and believe the poor are just lazy. Not the niche I thought Labour would be aiming for, but it is a position one could take, I guess. 🙈 Though at that point, I guess Labour and Tory is basically the same?

As an outside observer, it feels like folks in the US have just decided to "wait it out", assuming every harm Trump does will be rolled back by the next president. This doesn't feel like a safe assumption to me, and feels like this is what happens when you slip into a binary partisan system.

This sort of manipulation - presenting clean as more expensive than fossil - is exactly the kind of thing that puts all YouGov polling in question. Your polsters are unprofessional and can't be trusted to do this job.

There are no shortcuts to understanding your own business.
010
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
And here's the thing that catches you out: it has always been true that rewriting software after years of hard-won understanding of the problem produces better code. Not because of the modern language. Because of the years. AI just lets you ship that understanding faster.

Che @gidim.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
The debt gets addressed by the thinking: proper domain modelling, mapping your bounded contexts, writing down what the actual problems are in plain language, and reflecting that in the design.
100
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
AI can genuinely help with a rewrite. It meaningfully reduces the cost of shipping fresh code in a modern language on a greenfield foundation. But that's not the same as addressing your tech debt.
100
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
It will make its best "guess". But now nobody can tell you where it guessed wrong, because no human wrote it. The institutional knowledge your engineers carried about why decisions were made? Gone. You haven't reduced your debt. You've compounded it.
100
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
To make things worse, an AI rewrite won't reproduce your logic faithfully. The more debt you have — the lower the cohesion, the more concepts bleeding across boundaries — the less likely it is to reproduce what the code was actually meant to do.
100
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
None of that shows up in your choice of programming language. It shows up in how your business was understood, or rather wasn't.
110
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
And the language of the business itself fractured, with the same concept living under different names in different places, or different concepts quietly collapsing into one.
100
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
But the problem were always: Code laid out without design intent. A domain model that grew by accretion rather than understanding. Abstractions drawn in the wrong places, around the wrong ideas. Workflows that span systems in ways nobody designed and nobody owns
100
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
Tech debt was never about the language. Maybe your engineers said it was, because "we're on an old framework" is easier to explain to the board than "our domain model has seven years of unresolved arguments and misunderstanding baked into it."
110
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 26/05/2026
Your tech debt is now a market opportunity; For someone else. AI agents will rewrite your codebase in a modern language and it'll all go away. Impressive pitch. Don't buy it.

So have IRGC, CIA, MI6... all been very well documented. So you're point is what? Civilians from Iran, Britain and the US who claim to experience violent bigotry should be challenged on their birth-country's conduct at every turn? Or is that only applied to Israelis? Or only Jewish Israelis?

What I don't understand is where the brand safety people have vanished to. I worked in AdTech for years, and the sensitivity brands had around being associated, in *any* way, with non-brand-safe material was costing my employers millions/day in lost revenue. This is clearly no longer a concern 🤔.

Nice, now do the 1,000s of Developers who have condemned thousands of leaseholders, such as myself, to life imprisonment in unsellable fire risk homes that are costing us a fortune to fix because these criminals cut corners. Including Labour and Tory MPs who enabled them to do so by deregulation.

That's because "Antisemitism" was not invented as term to describe the "hatred of semitic people", but rather it was coined in Germany by journalist Wilhelm Marr to provide a pseudo-scientific, racial-sounding term for Judenhass (Jew-hatred). Antisemitism was coined by Antisemites.

Thanks Matthew, we appreciate it. Lets genuinely hope this is resolved soon, because our family has tough choices to make regarding our future which are currently impossible.

While in opposition, I can totally understand the limits on what you can do. But now you have the greatest majority Labour could have ever dreamt of having... And nothing material has changed for us. So what was the point of voting for Labour?

Che @gidim.bsky.social · 31/03/2026
As discussed multiple times before - lenders are still refusing to lend, the work on our building hasn't started... It's stuck in planning and has been for years now... And we're in a lengthy costly FTT process with our freeholder because of their incompetence and potentially criminal conduct.
100
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 31/03/2026
Hey Matthew, Thanks for replying, really. But unfortunately I can't accept that everything is being done, given that nothing material has changed for the leaseholders who still can't sell or remortgage, still pay extortionate insurance rates, and live in fear of losing everything to a fire one day.

Che @gidim.bsky.social · 30/03/2026
When politicians claim to have solved a problem, it's your job as a journalist to actually check whether the victims agree with that statement. We don't. Nothing material has changed for us. We're still paying extortionate service charges and insurance costs linked directly to the cladding scandal.
000
Che @gidim.bsky.social · 30/03/2026
When @mrjamesob.bsky.social refers to the cladding scandal as being in the past, as he did today, he harms the thousands of leaseholders like my family and I, still locked in an unsellable home 8 years later. It isn't solved. Despite all the promises made to us by @matthewpennycookmp.bsky.social

I've used it to help with documentation... It's just OK. As mentioned the transcription is touch and go, especially if your teammates have non-US/UK accents. For example, transcribing *me* was OK, but transcribing my Indonesian teammates was super broken.

Haha that's not quite what I mean. You can think of it as mobbing - a pair of engineers working with the agents, so that you get the real time feedback of a pair in the same way as before, just augmented by AI.

Where do the XP folks hang out these days? I feel like all the online communities I had in the 2010s have gone stale.

I think the DORA metrics have played a significant role in this - the gap between High Performance and Elite is just easier to close with XP because it removes the drag caused by async work. Teams now have a science backed way of demonstrating that pairing can be higher performance than solo.

I'm really excited by these signals. I've been on three XP teams - one that I inherited, which is how I learned the practice - and two that I've built. All three have been the most effective teams I've ever been on. I'm now building a fourth and can't wait to see how far we can push XP with AI.

I've started a new role and writing Golang for the first time in my career. I don't get it. Maybe it's because I've gotten used to the rich type systems of Rust and Kotlin, but Go feels like I'm back to basic OO again. What am I missing?

Ooh, very exciting! The first edition is one of the best summaries I've read on the topic, and top of my recommendation list to budding engineers. How does the second edition differ? What are the key areas you've revisited?

I walk in on my wife and 10 month old having a dance party without me, to the tunes of Lady Gaga. My wife: "this was *his* choice, BTW" " And how did he express this choice, exactly?" I enquired. She looks me dead in the eyes: "he said ga ga". Fair.
