Will Rogers in OKC saw 0.86" of rain yesterday, enough to move 2026 to the 7th driest year through Sept. 30. We can expect more movement after today's totals, which are >1" since midnight. - 1901: 11.76" - 1911: 14.14" - 1954: 14.63" - 1914: 15.17" - 1956: 15.34" - 1931: 15.36" - 2026: 15.52"

The first assignments I had when learning Python was in Brian Fiedler’s class. He had us write a text product parser that would convert all the forms that those take into something that a human could more easily understand. It was like trying to save a sinking canoe with a sippy cup.

I love tech. I remember when Apple came out with their “Shortcuts” app to automate things. Tech dudes I followed thought it would revolutionize iPhone users by bringing visual coding to the masses. I was like, most people don’t need to automate anything. So many “everything looks like a nail” vibes.

As a Ph.D. student, I discovered a new velocity turbulence mechanism. Its precise function, meteorological utility (if any), or level of significance was not clear, but at a minimum I was proud of the work. I looked through simulated velocity fields and I discovered something interesting—Batman.

I guess anything could happen, but it seems likely that this will be the final standings for count of days reaching 100˚F in Oklahoma City. We did it, 2026!

All other years had 28 or fewer. The chart ends with 13 years that had a single 100°F day, including 2025, and 22 years that never reached 100°F, including 2021, 2004 and 2002.

Here is another way of viewing it. This is the same data, but presented as a departure from normal (dashed black line). That sharp slope seen in the yellow line is what we call the Drought Slide®* *I proposed "Slope of Death" and "Slide to Hell", but legal said those were "too dramatic." Whatever.

Oklahoma City got a few sprinkles yesterday (0.07 inches). If you squint on the yellow line, you can maybe see that. Anyway, 2026 is currently the 5th driest year in Oklahoma City on record, having received only ~51% of its normal value through September 23.

Agreed. I think it's no surprise the same people have been cutting liberal arts education programs. I always thought some of the best leaders were the ones who didn't seek it, and the smartest folks the ones who readily knew their limitations.

I became aware of my dad’s mental health issues in first grade. That Christmas, my mom got me a Super Nintendo that came bundled with Super Mario World. That game helped hug a boy who was scared about what his dad was going through, and he learned that games and art and books could be an escape

These folks pick and choose when objects have agency. Their toys might be taken? “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” Their toys may not make back their investment and they need a bailout, “AI will kill us”. It’s so weird how the choice of agency always shields them from responsibility.

Based on ASOS data (IEM /NCEI) at KOKC, 13 of 18 days in September 2026 have had max temp >= 100F, followed by 7 days in 2000 and 2012.

Me and a few pals worked at a grocery store in high school. We TP'ed the assistant manager's house on Halloween, specifically the large trees in his front yard. Friends, it rained later that night. He was never outwardly mad about it, but our shifts involved a little more manual labor afterward.

OKC topped out at 99˚F yesterday. At noon, yesterday, the temperature was 93˚ w/a dew point of 66˚F and winds from the SW at 6 mph. Today at noon, it was 93˚F with a 65˚F dew point and winds from the SSW at 10 mph. So, it will be close
