Omigod, this is the most heartwarming story possible! Backpack (bear 89) is the son of the 2019 winner of Fat Bear Week, Holly (bear 435). In 2007, he injured his foot & a practice of riding on momma's Holly's back had a new meaning: he was mobility-restricted while it healed. So Holly moved him.
From DISCVR blog's Facebook page, a momma bear & a yearling cub on her back in the shallow water. I think the background has been swapped out, and I can't rule out some AI use there? God, Facebook has become the social media for AI slop : (

The title of the article, which I link below, is "How Bear 89 earned the name Backpack"

Almost everyone arrived early to our gathering yesterday. I had not finished putting out the food and suddenly, my kitchen was standing room only, so a few things never got put out. Might have to have a chip and dip party, if that's a thing.

So I don't think come-and-go gatherings are a thing anymore, which is unfortunate because for introverts and people with limited social battery, they're PERFECT. Petition to revive come-and-go!

For the second time, someone has commented on my fruit bowl. "You have REAL fruit in there?" Folks, is it weird to have real fruit in a bowl in the kitchen? They do it in movies all the time.

Finally tried one of those donuts everyone talks about, thanks to Costco's free samples. I suppose I understand the hype. It tastes like a carnival treat, like something made in a fryer that might not pass a health inspection. Very soft though. Kudos on the soft.

Gnat clouds have made yard work unbearable. I went out to pick the carrots and beets, came in and shook my hair out over the tub. You don't want to know the rest. 😲

My five year old has the soul of Orson Welles. We were outside school and he 'put a kiss in my pocket for later.' Extremely touched by this, I gave him two back. He dug out the second one, THEATRICALLY CRUSHED IT IN HIS FIST and said 'one is enough.'

It was an early morning for us. Small Dog was throwing up - I think from pain (old age is a bitch). Got up, cleaned the mess, Hubs made coffee, and we finished season 9 of the X-Files before sunrise. Everyone is snoozing now before we see the Vet this afternoon.
Griffonshire (Small Dog) lays on my lap while the Sheepadoodle snuggles-in beside. The 4am light is dim.

Yesterday I learned that it was the neighbour's dog who discovered that a buried rodent trap had done its job. The dog was seen scratching at the lawn where the trap had been buried. That the neighbour has a dog with the sense to detect a rotting corpse is perhaps good to know. #spookyseason

What a lot of people don't understand is that Canada's dairy protections help to ensure there is always enough but not too much, which keeps prices steady for farmers and for buyers. If you want to know how it works, read about it. Then tell three friends so we can stop having this conversation.

It's not just the Canadian government that is looking to diversify. Canadian companies are stocking new products, and Canadians themselves are trying new things, from jam to cars to streaming services. It will take time, but we are slowly untangling ourselves to protect our independence.
