Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 9hYou might think that would make playing Pikmin a miserable experience, but no. As difficult as this can make life in general, within that controlled environment of Pikmin I can simply do what I was born to do. It's so wonderful. This is my hole. It was made for me. 010
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 9h05 [Pikmin] I am never NOT playing Pikmin. When I play other games, when I do chores, even during leisure time. My particular cocktail of ADHD and OCD means my brain is constantly doing Dandori as the later games call it. Just perpetually trying to optimize how to spend time to a debilitating degree 100

Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 06/10/2026In a lot of ways I find Nintendo's B-list properties like Yoshi or Kirby more interesting than their A-list ones because there's no pressure to follow any particular formula. Someone on the team can just be like what if "Yoshi did some field zoology?" and everyone is like sure why not lol 000
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Man I sure had fun with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Such a neat way to structure a game. Here's a series of funny lil guys, each with a new mechanic, and a semi-open area to just kinda play around in, experiment, and see what you can do. 000
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I'll never know how she wound up choosing it. Did something about the name or boxart appeal to her? Did an employee suggest it? If so was it an inexplicable genuine fan or just somebody pushing excess stock? Either way tho I'd definitely never have played it otherwise. 100
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 05/10/202604 [Mischief Makers] Another story: My Grandma got me this for xmas when I was a kid. It was the quintessential "Grandma gift". Some weird lookin thing I didn't ask for that she picked out all on her own despite knowing nothing about games. It is the BEST game I've ever played. 100
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Yeah, this is completely damning. At this point there's no doubt that he's just another sociopathic rapist doing damage control and his story about immediately confessing and submitting to punishment is just a lie. 0181
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 04/10/2026What terminally online ppl don't get is that it's fine to be a "tourist". That's only an insult when someone is *pretending* to be some kinda hardcore/longtime fan. Just being like "yeah I'm not usually into this series but I thought I'd give this one a try" is completely normal and okay. 000
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 04/10/2026They are still similar on a broader level tho. Very high friction, few concessions to "quality of life" and minimal guidance, leaving the player to explore and unravel the world more naturally. Completely at odds with the excessive on rails hand holding of the time. 100
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Mind you, Dragon's Dogma doesn't feature the moment to moment super punishing, easy to die combat of Dark Souls and maybe that's why it never moved beyond its initial little cult hit niche while DS grew and grew until it became is massive phenomenon. 100
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Both tell opaque, esoteric stories dealing with cycles of destruction and rebirth. Both have very odd, stilted, iconic dialogue. Both integrate online elements into a single player experience. More than anything tho, both are these weird, unique, kinda jank breaths of fresh air. 100
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 04/10/202603 [Dragon's Dogma] This game is for me what Dark Souls is for a lot of people. The parallels really are striking. Came out only a few months apart. Both western inspired in setting and mechanics but Japanese made in a way that I think shows up in a lot of subtle tonal ways. 100
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I don't want to discourage people from feeling disgusted by this but the thing you should be disgusted by is the whole system, not the fact that you used to buy (or others still buy) Bunghole Brand trash bags because you now happen to know Charles Bunghole IV is a nazi. 000
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I know this isn't an easy pill to swallow but basically everything you buy gives money to a fascist. That's how capitalism works. Everything is owned (or will soon be owned) by a string of companies that eventually lead back to some billionaire and they are ALL fascists. 120
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I don't think anyone needs to empathize with Gellar but I really think you should stop invoking his victim like this when she is not the one who brought this to public attention and has not asked for any of this to be done on her behalf. 2380

Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 02/10/2026It's pretty clear that a lot of people responding to this are more upset that it was kept from *them* as viewers, and as a result that *they* were tricked into supporting someone they find reprehensible, than they are about the actual assault and its impact on the victim. It's unpleasant. 0475
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 02/10/2026It was the first JRPG I ever played. I was very much a nintendo and/or action platformer kid. It completely blew me away tho. Inspired me to go back and play every Final Fantasy I could and a bunch of other stuff. Two decades and dozens and dozens of JRPGs later here we are. 110
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 02/10/202602 [Xenosaga] Here's a story: One day in highschool my very eclectic goth friend came up and handed me Xenosaga I out of nowhere. Not sure why. Only time he ever recommended or lent me a game. Didn't really give much of an explanation either. "Just play it! It's wild!" Alright, sure. I played it. 110
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 02/10/2026More fantasy games etc should incorporate full blown creation stories into their worldbuilding. It rules. Especially when it affects the story in a tangible way instead of just being treated like made up mythology or religious dogma. 221
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I wanna say something about each of these so lemme start by sharing my favorite scene from Ocarina of Time and really from any game: youtu.be/r4tHItL1xLs?... Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I did the 9 games thing ppl are doing. I really tried to pick stuff that I had a particular history or relationship with or that really wormed itself into my brain in a unique way instead of just the usual list of my absolute favs, although obv these are still all favs of mine. 130

Baten Kaitos is also right up there for me except I only played it like last year so it's not in any way "formative". 010

Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 24/09/2026By advertising these tools these places want to seem like they're helping people avoid problem gambling but it's literally the opposite. They're *targeting* gambling addicts and trying to convince them it's safe. They can totally get away with it just a little here. Pure evil. 010
Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 24/09/2026When places advertise their "responsible" gambling tools it's so insidiously evil. I mean nobody NEEDS to gamble. At best it's just entertainment so if it's potentially disastrous for you obviously you should just NOT gamble at all, not use tools to try to do it "responsibly". 110

Aaron @ghostofchicken.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I've been watching the new 2nd season of The Gentlemen. It's good. It's a lot more self-serious than the 1st season which I do have mixed feelings about. It does serious drama well enough but I do miss the humor. I do so love Guy Ritchie's particular brand of absurdity. 010
