Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 3hCompletely echo The Wheelers in Return to Oz when I was 6 (also watched the film later in life and still found it terrifying). Honourable mention to Stphen King's It as well, which was shown on our school bus every night for a week when I was 12. Couldn't go out alone for weeks. 010
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 01/10/2026As a fully democratic party, any member can raise a policy position for discussion by the party. Hence why there are some truly whackjob "policies" attached to the Greens. Complete non-starters but a PR problem for the party for sure. 010
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 01/10/2026And of course, it's HMICS not HMICFRS, which could explain why healthcare was taken more seriously! 010
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Impressed that healthcare was directly referred to in HMICFRS's report of Scottish police custody suites. Our study didn't include Scotland but happy to see healthcare being taken much more seriously. Will have to check the report to see if it is actually healthcare or simply safeguarding. 110
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 29/09/2026We had people in our sample detained in police custody longer than these lads for shoplifting. Some group of terrifying international terrorists these were if they were bailed within hours. - Not to say, anyone should be detained in police custody at all! 011
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 28/09/2026What a fantastic (and much needed) module to provide MA students with a deep (and ultimately optimistic) scholarly approach for navigating our present technolandscape. 121

Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 25/09/2026I've said it before and I'll say it again, nearly all the students I see in my role as providing additional support, are all working full-time (or close to full-time) outside their studies. The cost of university nowadays is far too high. 051
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 24/09/2026As a colleague replied to me this week after I expressed frustration about contradictions in institutional policy, "Our leaders do not think relationally." Probably one word too many there. 011
Reposted by Geth ReesMargot Finn @eicathomefinn.bsky.social · 24/09/2026University messaging on the value of universities has clearly failed. Instead of repeating the same messages for the same result (or hiring a new PR firm), maybe try engaging with academic staff (who actually teach and support students) to message differently and better? 2396
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 23/09/2026What was Jacqui Smith saying the other day - the UK is open to international students. Apparently not! 020
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 21/09/2026I'm part of a running group where I'm one of the younger members. Many are 60+. So inspiring to keep getting out and continuing to be active in older age. 010
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 20/09/2026As mentioned before, why promote to the Sweaties, they've already got us! New announcements will be at Directs, Xbox, etc. as you say. 000
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Nope! Disk 2 would need completely new scenarios, scripts, etc and Takahashi would not be happy with Square making new content for his baby. At the same time, he's not interested in remaking as he's already developed 'Perfect Works' through Saga and Blade. 000

Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Social science solutions often advise more resourcing, more regulation and less scope for profiteering. Not as attractive or spectacular as promissory new tech solutions with their ridiculous promises and expectations. 140

Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Had a great time at #MedSoc. Definitely a theme of "Carceral Seepage" (Serrano 2026) across many of the papers (well those I attended anyway). @ellenstewart.bsky.social and my event on criminal justice healthcare was well-attended and had great discussion. Overall, very successful conference. 110

Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 07/09/2026My institution just launched a staff survey a week after 75% of applicants were turned down for promotion. This will end well (although should be grateful we had a promotion round, thanks to the unions for that). Might provide UEB with insight into why NSS scores collected in Feb are so poor! 010
Geth Rees @gethrees.bsky.social · 07/09/2026Perhaps due to age but endurance is much easier than speed endurance. I can now hit sub-4hour marathons every time, but my 5k pb still sits stubbornly at 22mins and I'm probably only going to get slower. 000
