In the interests of reporting failures as well as success, @deecooke.bsky.social and I just ran the Kingston Park races. Fitness is low given insufficient training this summer and too many nice meals while away, so knew I wasn't in PB shape. Thought 48min for 10k would be respectable. Didn't take...

Sorry for the poor picture, but delighted to have just pressed the submit button on the following manuscript. It has taken over five years, but (if all goes well) our book "Care Detained" should be out with Routledge early next year.

Completed the Toronto Marathon 10k this morning. Two minutes slower than goal time, so a little disappointed (a little too much eating during this work trip), but third in my age category, so will take a bronze for my efforts.
Medal and number for Toronto Marathon 10k.

First run during my trip to Toronto. Will be spending time with @jazzmoose.bsky.social and hopefully others to discuss my future book on a sociological analysis of forensic medicine. Was wonderful running alongside Lake Ontario at dawn, although discovered, local taggers cannot spell anarchist.

Early start this morning to sit as part of an "expert audience" for a workshop on Scottish Policing and Community Wellbeing at Strathclyde University. Looking forward to hearing about partnership working between third sector organisations and Police Scotland.

Made the decision stop using Amazon this year and so needed a new bookstore. Was delighted to find @booksplease.bsky.social who very efficiently and effectively were able to source and deliver my books (faster than the other place were estimating). Excellent service and I recommend them to you all.
Copies of three books: Conservatorship; Forensic Cultures in Europe; and The Making of Law.

Would like to welcome @gabriellamwedzi.bsky.social to Bluesky. Gabriella's PhD was an exceptional ethnography of intimate partner violence experienced by women in Black Pentecostal churches. She seamlessly showed the impacts of migration, gender, class and religion. Definitely one to follow.

Saying goodbye to the amazing colleagues at the Dept of Criminology and Soc of Law at Oslo. Really productive month, lots of writing done as well as plans for a new project. Also attended two events linked to the Digital Forensics project, which were fascinating. Reminded why I love my job.

After teaching and thinking about the construction of victims and survivors of harm for many years, it has been an honour to have been working the last couple of weeks where some of the most foundational work in the field was developed. I have one more week, but will miss being here when I'm gone.

Attending the Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law at University of Oslo as a Visiting Scholar for the next month. Looking forward to discussing forensic medicine (in all its forms) with colleagues old and new. Very grateful to @leverhulme.ac.uk for supporting this visit.

Ring the PB bell, got a one minute PB at Amsterdam Marathon. PB now 3:58:26. Must confess to being a little disappointed as I trained for more, but at 30k switched to easy running rather than continuing to push at goal pace. No real reason, just felt hard. Need more resilience. Still, new PB.

Lovely card from the amazing Dr Gabriella Mwedzi (unfortunately not on Bluesky) commemorating her successfully passed viva. Gabriella was a pleasure to supervise, and her thesis, an ethnography of a Black Pentecostal Church, was fascinating and impactful. Keep an eye out for Gabriella's articles.
Thank you card with 5 gold stars and text "Excellent Supervisor. Would Recommend"

Picked up a copy of Recalibrating Stigma after a fantastic launch event in Edinburgh last week. Very much looking forward to reading the chapters and drawing on the analysis in my own work. Great work @gmthomas.bsky.social, @oliwilliams.bsky.social, Tanisha Spratt and @amychandler.bsky.social.

@deecooke.bsky.social and I ran the Edinburgh Marathon Fest Half Marathon this morning. Didn't get the ambitious PB I'd hoped but still a PB (1:45:46). Have another half lined up in July where I'll try and dip under that 1:45 mark.

Ran my first ultramarathon yesterday, 34miles from the Newcastle Quayside to Stocksfield and back. Ran with @deecooke.bsky.social in a little over eight hours. The banter with fellow runners and the marshalls was ace and I was smiling the entire second half. Definitely doing this race again.

@deecooke.bsky.social and I ran as team on a 10k relay this morning (running 5k each). No PBs but we both got our fastest times so far this year, with me hitting 22:30. Been focusing on long distances for my first ultra marathon next month, so this bit of speed on a Sunday was a welcome change.
