Funny how both Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson echo Kremlin talking points about Russian Brexit meddling being a ‘lie’, exactly as they did a decade ago blaming the EU for Putin’s first invasion of Ukraine

Hoping the latest Reform scandal will bring down Farage is forgetting one thing: Transgression is part of the far-right’s appeal. I’ve written about this: www.gerhardschnyder.com/brexit-impac... Far right feeds on people’s frustrations. Breaking the rules of an unfair society is the whole point!

Our rapid disillusionment with political leaders is treated by much of the media as some kind of pathology. But what I see is these leaders backtracking on their promises, dashing people's hopes and serving the ultra-rich ahead of the rest of the population. Why wouldn't we be disillusioned?

The depressing thing about the US isn't Trump really. He's just a grotesque. It's the complete failure of all the things liberals believe in: Congress, the judiciary, the press, voters themselves, all persistently unwilling or unable to stop him. It's the failure of an entire society.

It is an interesting phenomenon that somehow the extreme/radical right seems now split between antisemites and pro-Israelis. I guess it is because Netanyahu’s « methods » appeal to those who like gas chambers and genocide? 🤔 Not sure if the Jewish community is not concerned about Yaxley-Lennon tho.

What worries me most about this saga is what it tells us about how the Tories assess where the countries right-leaning electorate stands: You get more votes by doubling down on appearing like facist apologists than admitting a mistake and firmly condemning that ideology. I really hope they are wrong

Fear, hate and racism whipped up by ugly politicians and irresponsible media. With Musk’s X spreading the word and organising their fascist foot soldiers. This is the rage that Farage called for. These are his people. This is his racist, hateful, angry Britain. app.independent.co.uk/2026/06/10/2...
Photo: Firefighters work to extinguish a fire in three cars parked on the street at Tigers Bay (Reuters)

Racists, online and in person, including politicians, have been showing us all what their real agenda is.
Far-right online figures, racist elements in England and the US have used Monday's events to justify spreading their poison.
People who know nothing of Belfast and probably have never been here are using what has happened to their own advantage.Whether that is politicians speaking out of both sides of their mouths or online scumbags cynically capitalising on events to try to make a point.
The "protect our women and girls" crowd have thought nothing of being all sorts of abusive to journalists like me.
It is so depressing to see burning barricades and to know that non-white people are in fear for their lives because casually racist characters online and in the real world are frothing at the mouth to spread their hate.
