It's quite unnerving having Helen Mirren staring in through my front window.

Benjy's lost yet another collar so I ordered a couple of replacements and some new AirTags on Amazon. On the "need anything else?" page I was suggested soothing intimate wipes, incontinence pads and stool softeners 👵🏻

Pretty happy with this list. The judges seem to have shunned the trend for "vibes only" novels (no plot or characterisation). I'm sorry The Renovation didn't make the list, but I'm not upset by any that did. (I haven't read The Disappearers yet, but I'm hearing mostly good things.)

Took myself on a day out to the Bethlem Museum of the Mind today. There was an exhibition of art by patients of the Bangalore Mental Hospital in the 1950s, and some Louis Wains which are on permanent display. Bought myself some Louis Wain Top Trumps in the gift shop.
Photograph of the outside of the Bethlem Museum of the Mind in Beckenham. It is a wide, two storey red brick building with a small green clock tower. Behind is a blue sky. In the foreground is a circular flower bed with white and yellow bedding plants.Framed sketch by Louis Wain of one cat performing phrenology on another cat.Four framed painting by Louis Wain from his "Kaleidoscope Cats" series, each more psychedelic and abstract than the one before.Picture of a pack of cards with the words "Louis Wain's Cats Trumps Card Game" on the front and an illustration of one of his Kaleidoscope Cats.

“So it was, on that misty morning, that Brenda set off for the capital. She knew not what she would find there, only that the time had come to move on - away from small-minded rural attitudes and people who called her ‘Oreo’ and ‘the wide panda’ - to seek a more fulfilling life.”
A belted galloway cow walking into the mist, on a Dorset lane, towards a bold, unpredictable future. You can see half of my car in the background. It looks remarkably clean, by normal standards. When one of my wife's work colleagues asked her "What car does your husband drive?" she answered "I can't remember what make it is but it's the really dirty one that sometimes turns up in the car park here" and her colleague immediately said "Oh yes, I know the one."
