I mostly talk about programming, usually FP, sometimes design, and a lot more rarely about music and games. I would love that order to be different but such is life.

This whole post hits me deeply. Wish there was a safe bubble for people like us to continue creating and engaging without all of the market virus that is almost impossible to avoid these days. Bubbles are bad - this is worse.

terrible. 20 years ago, the internet was full of hobbyist blogs and forums. over time, these have been replaced by paywalled substacks and private discord channels, each a walled garden. google's decision to prioritize AI just makes it less likely people will create free, public info

A person I know (and who is? was? a good professional al) left an AI-generated comment under my LinkedIn post. Full-on AI slop. I asked: why do this? He replied. It’s because of “engagement.” People are burning their profession al reputation, paying for AI tools, for nothing

Software as the Product of Obsession Times Voice
You might think it counterintuitive that a movement obsessed with software would be spearheading a severe decline in the design quality of software, but in Patel’s definition, there’s no concept of software as art, as a practice, as a craft. Software brain is purely an obsession with software as a medium in and of itself. A means with no consideration for the end.

I'm almost there it's so pretty!! 😭 this is the first time I've made extensive use of complex numbers in shader code, which has been fun! it's an analytic 2D lighting system through piecewise conformal maps representing angular light/"sky" exposure, which means you get fully analytic penumbras!
a partially finished analytic 2D lighting solution, showing both the angular and radial component with a checkerboard pattern and color coding

After working with Elm for so many years, its kinda funny when I realise my normal is the exception for most people... These days, even when working with different langs (Gleam, Elixir, TS, Odin), I always architecture things in a way this _mostly_ remains true (but not really).

I'm kinda addicted to talks and interviews. A pattern I've noticed tied to highly self-centered "thought leaders" is saying something absolutely debatable and following with "it's an obvious thing that nobody is thinking of" (except them). Its the "well, actually..." of monologues. Please don't.

As a designer that mostly worked for web over the last ~15y, I fucking love game UI design so much. Why is web so much worse?? Games have this attention to small details, they're not afraid to innovate while still being intuitive. Animations, spaciality, playfulness - ppl should be taking notes.
