Mea Culpa - Dark Hours

Just FYI - hit a delay on the new app that was supposed to launch this week. I submitted a last minute small change and Apple has rejected the app. So I'm stuck in paperwork-land for now. I remain optimistic that I can get this pushed through.

Been working on this little hobby project for several weekends. It's ready to show my friends. Most sky apps tell you what's up. Dark Hours tells you the truth: whether tonight is worth it, when, and which way to look. Free, no account, go nuts! darkhours.io #astronomy #stargazing

Dark Hours, what's actually visible in your sky tonight
Whether tonight is worth going out for, when to go, and which way to look. Real astronomy, live weather, and a light-pollution model that publishes its error bars.

This is a short film about A/B testing, algorithmic optimization, and the small act of ignoring both. About what it means to make something by hand in a world that can tell you, with a number, exactly what would have worked better. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Frn...

Your music library became endless. Something quiet disappeared when it did. A short documentary about formats, streaming, and trying to work out whether the music changed, or I did. My first video essay. Had a blast and it would be so fun to make more of these! www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzzN...

I’ve been a little distant lately, just super head down on something worth it. A short list of what it entails: FX3, A7, Misc Aputure rigs, an iPod, lots of black paper, a few paperclips, and a hell of a story. 👀 Be back soon.

Why do standards created in the 1970s continue to power the modern internet? According to @terrygodier.com, it’s because they’re “too useful to disappear, too uncool to hype, too federated to acquire, and too awkward to turn cleanly into a platform.” www.terrygodier.com/the-boring-i...

Just added an OPML to the Sourcefeed discover page. This little service continues to grow by leaps and bounds and there’s a real culture developing here. It’s been inspiring and heartwarming and interesting to see how it develops!

I’ve been experimenting with a flagship Android device for the past few days. Can anyone point me to some incredible paid up front / commercial indie apps for Android? I want to see the best of the best. Bonus points if it’s something crafted by one person.

What I want to build are things that work the old fashioned way, on protocols that give users sovereignty and agency, but with modern thinking applied to the UI and UX. That’s it. That’s my whole shtick. Thanks!

All I want in life is a modern version of Yojimbo that re-imagines Finder as a surface to drag and drop and save and recall and organize various things. Text snippets, memes, contacts, dmgs, webpage archives, bookmarks, json files, whatever. Persistent, visual, spatial, wonderful. Too much?

Software as the Product of Obsession Times Voice
You might think it counterintuitive that a movement obsessed with software would be spearheading a severe decline in the design quality of software, but in Patel’s definition, there’s no concept of software as art, as a practice, as a craft. Software brain is purely an obsession with software as a medium in and of itself. A means with no consideration for the end.
