"In the past (cough, Andre Dillard, cough), we have seen offensive tackles who could not play both sides, so for Bell to wipe away that concern right off the bat is kind of a big deal." "Wipe away". 😉 Nice, one, Kempski.

Nothing better demonstrates (to me, at least) the subjectivity of taste better than that many people whose taste and judgment I respect esteem Vertigo.

One of the greatest movie reviews of all time is Roger Ebert's review of North. I don't recall people chiding him for being too mean, or too "personal".

You are reminding me of the Neal Stephenson novel Diamond Age, where the motivation for a character is to figure out how to raise children in a loving environment with stability, where their needs are met, and at the same time instill in them a sense of subversion.

When I first moved to MN, late last century, it surprised me how much things basically ran on Eastern time. Work was based on the NY financial markets, Must-See TV was on at "8, 7 Central". Everything happens earlier here because it's happening at the same time in a different time zone.

Happy Pride to this Caravaggio self-portrait that made one man so gay he had to go to the hospital
Caravaggio's Baccus painting, featuring a lush fruity spread and leaves bedecking a pasty twink who only works out his armsArticle screenshot that says:

The most extreme examples of
Stendhal syndrome share a sensation of
self-fragmentation. Magherini
describes the case of a 53-year-old
German man who was hospitalized
after repeatedly viewing Caravaggio's
Bacchus at Uffizi Gallery. The patient
felt "an attraction closer and closer to
an intimate sexual arousal of
ambiguous nature that invaded him
and made him feel good and bad."
Unmoored and distressed, he sought
medical attention. After treating the
subject's initial episode, Magherini
writes that he came to recognize his
latent homosexuality. Another case...

Post from @figgled

It's kinda fucked that musicians eat sandwiches by placing them inside trombones and honking them into each other's mouths

Post from skirtsuit-angel

this is an example of defamiliarization, where something totally normal, conventional, and ordinary - like honkwiching - is taken and described as something that sounds weird and foreign

Okay, but when people with consistently poor judgment finally realize some things that people with far better judgment saw clearly long ago, that doesn’t make the poor-judgment people the right ones to take seriously going forward. People are mad at the guy for good reason.
