Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio(聊齋志異), written by Pu Songling during the Qing Dynasty, is a collection of 491 supernatural tales featuring fox spirits, ghosts, and demons. Pu's narratives show more compassion for non-human entities than humans and satirize social issues of his time. 1/2

#KawaseHasui (1883-1957) Ochanomizu 1926 Twenty views of Tokyo Series #japanese #woodblock Every snowscape by Hasui has snowflakes rendered in unique ways. Here the flakes are ovoid and slanted, and their tones range from brilliant white to soft grey.
A blizzard transforms an ordinary view into an extraordinary one, with blowing gusts of snow contrasted with the dark grey swath of the riverbank, and a bright yellow window light providing bursts of color. The view from the bridge over the Ochanomizu, a tributary of the Kanda River: a boat has come to a halt in the squalls during a blizzard, a row of houses is situated on the opposite bank.”
