Mortgage renewal due in just a few months and the broker has two fix rate deals for us; a two year for 5.34% and 5 year for 5.16%, meaning the monthly repayments will go up by £375 at least from next year unless rates go down. How's everyone else?

What car would you use to take you, your wife and two small kids on a road trip to Disneyland Paris in comfort? Under 10k purchase price, petrol, not too boring to drive, decent boot space and does at least 35mpg? Not for me, but for a friend who doesn't fly. I suggested Mondeo or Superb estates.

Gearbox problem (apparently) sorted for now. Filled up the gearbox with the correct oil and needed just under 500ml. Gear change improved and the whining noise has gone apart from when 1st and 2nd are engaged, but much quieter than before and heard only with the windows down. Let's see how it goes

No Rustival for me tomorrow. Gearbox making a whining noise this morning and gears occasionally became a bit hard to shift, so I need time to diagnose what is wrong. Maybe low oil level judging by the leak at the bottom, but I need time to find out what is causing it 🙁

In the "old days" all government and officials cars in Portugal were mandatory to be black. Citroen supplied a lot of DS, CX and XM for decades and politicians loved them. Here's a clip from 1974, not longer after the revolution that ended 48 years of dictatorship.

New UMM electric prototype at the Caramulo motor festival. The company might restart making these 4x4's after it stopped its car production in 1993 and re-focused on its metalworking business. In co-operation with Lisbon's ISEL engineering institute, a new electric 4x4 in under development.

Twiddling my thumbs at work after lunch so I quickly made a excel spreadsheet to see if there is a benefit for me to switch to an electric car. In short, yes, but not yet. Most sub £5k cars don't suit my needs and brand new cars are out of my budget. £8k is achievable, though and there are... 1/2

13 years ago today, I sold the '83 BMW 323i E30 I bought back in April 2007 on ebay for just £170. In April 2010 I thought it would be a good idea to a full restoration and that's what really kickstarted my youtube channel.

Thanks Trump! Just paid nearly £87 for a full tank of fuel on my old Focus. Before the war, the exact same amount of fuel would have cost me just under £65. Once I add up all the monthly mileage, my fuel costs have gone up £60 a month on average. If I had a diesel, costs would be higher.

Doing some magazine "loft" reading and came across this '90 Autocar magazine. Some interesting cars, shitloads of mobile phone ads and what cars you could buy back then. A low spec BMW E34 would cost you just over £16k, while a R21 GTS with a similar capacity engine would be just under £10k.

Recently have been rediscovering Portuguese Synth Pop. Portugal might be known best for its "Fado" genre with singers like Mariza, but the 80's produced interesting bands that brought a more up to date style, such as Heróis do Mar. Well, I am now going to attend Rustival but as visitor, not exhibitor. Tried several travelling options but train and bus are way more expensive than going by car. Also, coming as visitor allows me an extra hour sleep, which is something we have been lacking at home for the last few months

Had a near miss today that could have been fatal for the motorcyclist. Driving up the single carriageway A24, few bikes racing down and 1 of them starts to wriggle and wobble once it goes over the middle line, just metres ahead of me. If he had not recovered, it would have been a head on crash.

BMW introduced the single cluster pod on the E3 in '68. When the E12 was launched in '72, the the popular orange glow was introduced and lasted nearly 40 years until LCDs took over. Mine displayed here and still works well despite being over 50 years old. Simple, clear info and no clutter.
