“Designed by a committee.” “Three different people designed it.” “Colossal letdown.” “In inadequate for human passengers.” “Jaguar is tone deaf.” The media’s response to the introduction of the Jaguar XJ-S in September 1975. It would go on to be produced for another 21 years.

Looks incredible, especially the three quarter rear. This is a Jaguar for the mid-21st century.

Our Mercury Cougar base with the 2.5 V6 on the day we bought it in May 1999, parked outside the insurance agent’s office. Later that year it went on sale internationally with Ford badges, and we would quite often see them on transporters locally heading from Flat Rock to ports on the east coast.

I do get comments about some of my cars rarely being out. Running 20 cars when you have other responsibilities is hard; that’s on top of harsh winters from December to April, and severe weather during the driving season. These were all the warnings in our area in the first week of September alone.

My 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo goes out only three, sometimes four times each year. On each occasion, sounds and drives like new. It’s possibly the most forgiving car I own.

Crosley Motors was a Cincinnati-based small car manufacturer on the pre/post-war years. They built three models between 1939 and 1952, the CB Four, CC Four and CD Four. The CC Four was built between 1946 and 1948, the wagon only foot 48. It was powered by a 27bhp 724cc engine. Found this one local!

Spotted a dilapidated second-generation KA8 Acura Legend coupe while driving home last night. These are now very rare for this reason: rust. While many believe these were built in Ohio, they were all imported from Japan.

My 1990 Pontiac Le Mans out this weekend. I spent five years looking for one and I’ve the mechanicals sorted pretty much. In time I’ll get to the cosmetics. Next up will be to recharge the airconditioning.

A trio of very rare birds in a corner of my barn. I had the LeMans out a couple of weeks ago, it’s the turn of the Scorpio today, but the 505 has a broken transmission linkage so it’s not going anywhere.

Our tree guy came out this evening to discuss more work on our property and turned up on this glorious AMC Eagle sedan. At the time it was made, it was the only four-wheel drive passenger sedan on the North American market. Another one I’m hoping to feature!

In 1994 and 1995, Sun International Imports sold a dozen Ford Escort RS Cosworths officially street legal in all 50 U.S. states. Ford refused cooperation so each car was stripped down before shipping and all Ford and Escort references removed. They were sold as the Sun International RS Cosworth.

Cadillac Eldorado ESC post 1995 with the LD8 4.6 Northstar engine. The FWD E-body platform was closely related to the G-body in the Seville, collectively know as the K-body architecture.

A trio (facelift sedan, pre-facelift sedan and facelift hatch) of a dozen or more sixth-generation Ford Fiestas sitting in my local breaker’s yard. Many sold here used the awful DCT automatic, notorious for premature failure and so bad they led to several class-action lawsuits against Ford.

Fiat 600D right on old Route 66 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. The 7” headlights were mandated for US models of the 500 and 600 throughout production, but were fitted to European 600D third-series models after 1965. This is a pre-1964 car as it has the suicide doors.

Gorgeous 1989 Maserati 228 in the classifieds. Only 469 were built and half of the cane to the U.S. Manual dogleg gearbox. If I wasn’t stupid enough to own Jaguars I’d probably plump for this.

There’s something quite refreshing about keeping a $500, 36 year-old beater which was cheap when new - which most people would have scrapped long ago - on the road. It pushes the boundaries of the intent of manufacturers for such cars.

The Leata Cabalero was built by Stinebaugh Manufacturing in Idaho, the second model produced by the company since its inception in 1975. It used custom fibre glass body panels. Only 97 were built before the company folded at the of 1977. This one was owned by renowned collector Myron Vernis.

Mazda announced its luxury Amati brand in 1991, with two initial models for the U.S.: the 300 (Eunos 500/Xedos6) and 500 (Eunos 800/Xedos9). It had planned a 1000 (based on the Sentia) using a showcased W12 engine. Mazda cancelled Amati in 1992 with only the 800 debuting as the Mazda Millenia.

Extremely rare US-specification Marcos GT. For the U.S. market they used Volvo inline sixes, but problems with U.S. customs impounding cars led to Marcos withdrawing from the market in 1970. Federalised cars did not have headlamp covers as this one does when sold new.

Opinion: VW’s decision to restructure by retiring SEAT, shuttering factories is entirely self-inflicted. The diesel debacle and lackluster ID.Buzz after decades of hype hurt it. It should sell SEAT to Stellantis; it has three Spanish plants to utilise their existing platforms for the Iberian market.

Jensen Automotive have clearly thought how the Interceptor would have evolved over time with its new iteration and the planned four-door coupe is interesting. The 6.8 litre by LME in Texas is based on the GM LT engine but heavily reengineered.

A few years ago, a YouTuber from Ohio drove his Audi R8 to the Arctic Circle on the Dalton Highway in Alaska. A few miles into his return journey, a small rock was caught under the front bumper and careened into his water pump near the back of the car, destroying it. He replaced it in Fairbanks.
