Another "realisation" is that many presentations have the same layout/design, more likely as an effect of the employment of AI in slides preparation. A reminder that AI is not inevitable but it is a choice.

and there is little or no time for the audience to ask questions. The audience has a much more passive role. This makes it a bit less interactional and networking-y than i am used to. It's going to be interesting tomorrow when i present my paper.

I have attended few conferences in Italy so i am also exploring the practices. In this conference, the chairs in the panels have a much bigger role than i am familiar with. They give targeted feedback to each paper (as they read the papers/presentations beforehand)..

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.

I have super fond memories of IGALA. My first IGALA was very close to my viva😬, June 2014. It was my first trip overseas, a 11-hour direct flight London-Vancouver. A reminder that the women of the Iranian national soccer team were forced to return to Iran. They did not leave Australia voluntarily! The fact that Iran is currently being illegally bombed by the U.S. does not, in any way, shape or form, make its regime less authoritarian, brutal, and misogynist!

You're touching on another point which needs some thinking. Maybe, some aspects of the project/logistics weren't really "understood" because of culturalexpectations.Italy functions very different for bureaucracy, connections,"doing" things.I tried to give them what they wanted but it's more complex.

thanks <3. yes, that's the disappointing part. Now, I have to contact all the people who were happy to get involved and share the news. I was very reluctant to involve many people in my first application, it wasn't a lack of planning/engaging as they might have thought, it was just to be efficient.
