Excited to watch this tonight as I love a slasher AND Mckenna Grace AND my sis has a song— Killer Casanova— featured in the film (diegetic!) & soundtrack around 1hr15m. It’s over the end credits too! Super proud of her 💖

I'm sorry to continue talking about today's Horror Nonsense, but it is so upsetting that a fellow queer person saw this photo and diminished its importance as if it were a performative gesture, and not the beautiful proof that @fangoria.bsky.social's foundation and legacy is one of queerness.

I’m listening to Tim Curry’s audiobook and feel very sad that it will soon be over. His approach to creative living echoes my own brief spell playing music professionally—and I miss that beat in my blood— and his turn of phrase oft takes my breath away. Captures the mystery of living so well.

While I’ve already recorded one podcast this year on De Palma’s original (soon to be released!), consider this a Carrie call out; if anyone’s looking for pod guests, editorials, lookbacks, or you know, horror location pieces (I’ve visited the Hermosa Beach locales!) — lemme know! 😀

Still impressed that Dr Lecter managed to create an MA (Hons) level moody art installation in the 7 minutes he had to make his daring escape. When the muse calls, you must respond.

@thisendsatprom.bsky.social’s Rocky Horror episode kept me company on the drive home from work late last night. I’d just rewatched the film this past weekend. Tim Curry’s been at the front of my mind. So many people loved him. What a horrible week.

I loved Steel Magnolias as a kid— still do— but Straight Talk was up there! Taped this off TV and watched it on repeat all the time when I was a preteen. It’s a sweet film. Oodles of talent, a huge heart and a genuine care for others; what a legacy! We are so, SO lucky to have had her 💖

A lovely part of being a public librarian is the constant discoveries. Even with access to galleys, advanced publisher catalogues, and being Very Online, *even then* I’ll walk around the stacks in the morning and see a book I’ve not heard of before. Scorsese and Robertson’s story?! This sounds FAB

I love My Cousin Vinny so much, and this scene in particular is utterly perfect. When Vinny elbows his cousin and says “Watch this” and she launches into this monologue, it sends chills down my spine it’s just so damn good!

So this past weekend I showed my girlfriend High Fidelity, a film I loved as a teen, and it turns out… it’s toxic as hell and supports its selfish misogynist lead in being the absolute fucking WORST. What made me miserable, knowing I thought his behaviour was fine or that the film thinks he’s fine?

Reagan didn’t address AIDS until 1985, at which point thousands were already dead. In 1986, C Everett Koop released a report on the crisis without sending it first for review to the White House, because he knew the Reagan administration would have censored it.

GREAT article. While I am excited to see original horror emerge outside of the studio system and then succeed, it mostly hails from young, cis, straight white men (or those who appear to be). Give me the same story of horror box office success from a woman of colour over 50 who works two jobs!

A bit late to the party on this one— loved Alex Russell’s LURKER. A steadily-unfolding character study of parasocial ills that’s discomforting as hell. Would make for an apt yet bleak double bill with Obsession. Would fit right in with the @evolutionofhorror.bsky.social’s Discomfort season!

McCarthy creates worlds suspended in a space wedged between reality and nightmare, but so firmly rooted in the everyday, it cannot help but terrify. He’s my favourite horror filmmaker working today. Can’t wait to revisit HOKUM.
