I know I need to do it, but boy do I Not Like squaring up these blocks. It is so boring and also a mess. I need to finish these today though or I am worried I will just lose motivation altogether.

When I was a tween I planted one mint plant in a raised bed along with other herbs. By the next year mint was the only survivor. Thirty years later the my parents still have mint growing all over the yard downwind of that original plant.

Went to the state fair yesterday. I love seeing all the prize winners. Pigeons were the small animals being judged. And that is how I got to see the state's grand champion pigeon. Isn't she lovely? I also got to vote in the Most Beautiful Pigeon contest, but honestly they were all winners.
Pigeon in a cage on wood chips with a purple and gold ribbon reading Grand Champion of Show 2026. The pigeon has her head turned back over her wing, looking very modest. She is a soft blue gray, with a little iridescence on her neck. She's cute, and she knows it.

According to the tag (not visible here) she is a young hen and was entered in the sporting breed class, Homer -show racing, class is blue/black, blue bar. Four pigeons, each in a cage, in a row on a table. Above them in a sign that reads: "VOTE HERE FOR MOST BEAUTIFUL PIGEON. Finalists will compete for the title of Most Beautiful Pigeon on Thursday"

Spent 90 minutes in a float tank and I am pleased to report that I had a lovely, relaxing time. I can't wear headphones and weighted blankets cause me to panic, making this the first thing I've tried that helped with sensory issues. Glad I went!

I went to college in Davis where there was 49er Video. Had DVDs and VHS (in this century), as well as an Adult section behind batwing doors. I saw a bunch of foreign language movies, all the MST3K that was available, and every horror film my mother never let me see growing up (I had a list).

I am so pleased with my progress so far. This quilt feels like my attempt to capture what is left of summer. I do think it needs sashing, though.
Thirty quilt blocks on carpet. They are all 8 pointed stars blocks, called sawtooth stars. The stars are prints (mostly foliage and small geometric patterns. The colors are greens, teals, yellows and gray.

This summer has been A Lot, and it feels like forever since I did anything quilty. So I finally spent the day cutting fabric for a new quilt.
Stacks of cut fabric, clipped together on a table. The fabrics are greens, aquas, electric yellows and grayish blues. To me it feels like a tropical summer, bright sunshine, cool water, and verdant abundance.

The dish scrubby fell into the garbage disposal (which had been having trouble draining) and I reached in and had to feel around to liberate the scrubby and when I pulled my hand out it was covered in dark brown slime. I didn't burn the entire place down and I would like my medal now, please.

I am thankful that the first online community I was invested in (proud former member of the Offbeat Empire) was committed to this mindset. I grew up in an online space where a many people were making weird life choices, and we all had to work on not seeing others choices as a referendum on our own.

My first sawtooth star. First time doing flying geese and it went okay! Everything was very trimmed and square and somehow in the final nine-square assembly I lost .25 of an inch on both sides, which is annoying. It does look very cute in these test fabrics, though!
A sawtooth star quilt block on a table. It's an 8 pointed star in a square block. The star is white with little red flowers and blue stems and stars and the background is a textured medium blue.

My apartment landlord fixed our back fence a year ago and got rid of the back gate. This adds a 20 min. walk to the bus stop and the rear street parking. So my neighbors kicked a couple of holes in the fence. Fixed. They were repaired today. Some hero immediately made another hole. I love them.

Maybe the hottest day of the year (so far) was not the best day to do a chore that is sensory hell for me and is also made much worse by being sweaty. But it needed doing, and it's done now, and I only gagged a couple of times. So, good job, me.

I finished my quilt! I actually finished it a while ago, and then -immediately- put it to use. It is, as I hoped, the perfect weight for summer.
A completed quilt on a full sized bed. The quilt is made of hour glass shaped blocks with narrow deep teal sashing. The fabrics are pale green and teal solids and these reproduction william morris organic prints recolored in wild pinks, greens, and blues. This is a view of the quilt from the perspective of someone in bed with it. It's the same quilt from before, but you can see the tent of my legs, and also a pale green bedroom wall across from the bed. There are bookshelves and also a floor fan sitting on an office chair pointed back at the bed. The lighting implies it is nighttime. It looks cozy.

Tuesday was 15 years of being married to @glaiveguisarme.com (we would have celebrated, but things have Been Busy). We had a time-travelling costume wedding, made a flow-chart for seating, and had our first dance/sing-a-long to The Best of Times is Now from La Cage Aux Folles. There were no signs

I am ill. My kid, a number-loving autist, asked me to assess my current health out of 100. I, a word-loving autist, wrote an essay to explain my response (65). She then created a survey with space for me to make notes for each question. This is all I have ever wanted. Final results 64-66.

I love summer evenings. I can hear two, possibly three parties happening in this apartment complex (one is a watch party, I assume, given all the shouting) as well as the evening animal chorus. The sun won't set for another 45 minutes.

I worked at Mervyn's in the kid's department. It was wild, they gave me 8 hours shifts and a full hour lunch. I also (briefly) worked in a different mall at Sears as a cashier, where I never got my 10 min. breaks, didn't get a mat to stand on, and they failed to pay me for a month. So, mixed bag.

Went to the Everett Pride block party as a family. Weather was great, and there were so many local queer artists selling things. We came home loaded down with purchases (stickers, books, jewelry, art) and a lot of political pamphlets.
A white tweenaged girl in a rainbow sequined dress posing in front of a rainbow seagull cut out on a city street. She is squinting with pursed lips (like a model, perhaps?). Behind her is a partially obscured sign reading RETT PRIDE (the E V E is hidden) Wooden art hung above a window, showing a series of five geometric cats. The cats together (one orange, one light orange, one white, one light pink, and one fuschia) are the colors of the lesbian pride flag.

Okay, that took -forever-. I had a hard time getting myself motivated to sew all of these long chevrons. I think the effect is nice, though! I have to finish this soon though, I need this lightweight quilt for my bed for the summer!
A quilt in progress on carpet. The quilting is complete, which gives the quilt a ripplely texture. The quilt squares are hour glasses surrounded by borders, either a solid hour glass with a print border or the reverse. The quilt has narrow green sashing. The fabrics are solids in shades of teal and reproduction william morris botanical prints colored in teals, pinks, and purples.

Went out to a pride celebration in Marysville. It was small, but the people were excited to be there. Got to hear a lovely rendition of "I am what I am" which always makes me cry. It's nice to come home from that and then have everyone on here happy about basketball or the name coming down or both.
White girl in a rainbow dress covered in sequins waves a rainbow ribbon in front of a large sign on a lawn. The sign has a rainbow infinity sign and the word Neurodivergent. A selfie of a white woman (me) with big sunglasses covered in enamel flowers, wearing a black shirt covered in pink triangles (a reference to Act Up's Silence = Death campaign) and standing on a lawn in front of a large Bisexuality Pride flag.

After years and years of struggling with this, I have a stylist who lets me come with pre-washed hair, confirms what I want done, and then he cuts my hair in silence. I sit with my eyes closed and breathe deeply until we are done. If I am having a hard time, we take a break. I am so thankful.

I did this again this year and I really enjoyed it! I know postcard writing is not a traditional Pride Month thing, but I think it might be becoming one of -my- traditions.
Black and white photo of six members of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, posed very similar to the painting Washington Crossing the Delaware. It's very triumphant with habits and frippery waving in the wind (also a taxidermized stag and doe). This photo was taken by Jean-Baptist Carhaix in 1987. Image from the GLBT Historical Society https://www.glbthistory.org/Black and white photo of Dykes on Bikes at the Seattle Pride parade in 1992. The focus of the photo is two women on a bike. Susan Benner (wearing a dark riding hat, formal jacket and vest and no shirt underneath) is looking back at her passenger Michelle (who is wearing a lacy light colored gown and light colored stockings and garters, with sunhat and parasol). Together their look suggests a day at the horse races.

I remember being a freshman in college and waiting in a line for 20 minutes to see Ted the Titan (Titan arum) blooming at the UC Davis conservatory. It was awesome (in the "nature's majesty" sense not the "socks and hot dogs" sense), and yes, it smelled Very Gross.

I like the effect of the quilting on this blanket, but the process is very slow! Who did this to me? Oh, it was my own choice to make a full sized quilt with a lot of straight line quilting? That can't be right. Anyway, about 1/4 quilted.
A quilt in progress laid over the side of a couch. It is partially quilted with diagonal lines which gives the fabric a crinkly texture.

Been trying to read some isekai lately.
Four frames comic about two types of Isekai I found and read lately. The first frame shows a young man with a sword. He says: "My name is Josh Itcantbehelped and I used to be a loser before a car crash brought me to a world where I am a god and half the population is made of SLAVE CATGIRLS". The second frame shows him crying and clenching his fist, with many a cat behind him, wearing bikinis. He says "To make it here I guess I have no choice but to own as many catgirls as I can...how tragic...". The third frame shows another character from another type of Isekai. She's a woman with a fluffy dress. She says "My name is Elise Robespierre and after being hit by a truck of terminal cancer I am now in my favorite 900 pages novel. With many a hot man.". The fourth frame shows her giving a board presentation to citizens, with graphs and pictures of plants on it. She says: "Hello citizens. This is my plan to modernize the agricultural system and prevent any further plague by creating medicine [...] taxes which ..." the text becomes unreadable as she keeps talking to her captive audience.

I spent some time today looking at the historical photos of queer folks living their lives and really enjoyed it. These are from the GLBT Historical Society in San Francisco. www.glbthistory.org/digital-coll...
Grayscale photo of three butch women in mid-20th century suits on a couch. This is bar owner Rikki Streicher (on the left) with two friends, circa 1950, the person in the center has a very smoldering expression on her face. Image is from the GLBT Historical Society https://www.glbthistory.org/digital-collections Photo of Gilbert Baker in a white diaphanous gown and a silver crown (similar to the Statue of Liberty). Baker is holding a flag and posing in front of the San Francisco Ferry Building in 1978. Eyes closed and one arm up and thrown back, the overall look is majestic. The photo is by Jean-Baptist Carhaix. She is dressed like a showgirl with glittery leotard that has large feather boa attached to her lower back (the effect is like a lyre bird), long light colored gloves, and a tall 1960s bob that is a little askew. The photo is by Henri Leleu and is undated, but really strongly feels 1960s or 1970s. Perhaps the warmest day of the year (so far!) was not a good time to try and pin my big quilt. All I managed to do was get sweaty and annoyed (and incidentally trim down my backing fabric). Oh well, I will try again, hopefully during a cooler time of the week.

Working on a new quilt. I did some sub-cutting so that tomorrow I can do some quick piecing during my work breaks. As I finished up, I found myself saying "I've got my work cut out for me." And then was annoyed no one was around to hear my terrible wordplay.
Strips of fabric cut out and layer out to make them easy to chain piece into quilt blocks. The fabrics are strips of bold orange, yellow, white, and purple. Looking closely you can see the fabric have patterns on them.A series of quilt blocks fanned in a semi circle on a table. There is a pile of yellow blocks with a green square in the center, green with a yellow square in the center, green with a blue square in the center, blue with a green square, blue with a purple square, and purple with a blue square.
