I didn't see them again in 2026, but there are definitely slop slingers out there trying to push AI generated crap onto the RPG market. They will lie by omission by hiring a real writer or artist to contribute a couple things, so they can claim to be human made, while 99% of the book is AI crap.

Only blatantly AI thing I've seen at GenCon in 2025 was a a game called Katana-Ra that seemed to have slipped in on one of those huge booths that sell hundreds of different books, but one look at "wrksgames" who makes it shows a ton of obvious AI slop.

This is kind of a problem found everywhere. Creators whose only inspiration is the specific genre and medium they're attached to. YA author who only reads YA books, comic writers who only read comic books, etc. it's not malicious, but it had become a big problem the longer it goes uninterrupted.

The games don't have to go anywhere, but continuing to promote playing D&D, especially the newer editions, still benefits Hasbro and Cocks. The community is part of the product, and even if you never buy another book, by continuing to promote D&D, you encourage others to give Hasbro money.

It's easy enough shorthand when talking to someone who doesn't know anything about RPGs. "It's a game like D&D" But between people who do know, using D&D to refer to RPGs as a general concept feels excessively wrong and nasty.

While they shoot both their feet repeatedly, other corners of the economy are admitting that AI has never worked as advertised and that replacing humans is way more expensive and less efficient. It's like every AI-pushing corpo keeps asking their own AI Chatbots if they need more AI.

The base book alone is already more than enough material to create endless varieties of mutant characters, but each new book has added an exponential amount of options and possibilities and stories. I cannot recommend it strongly enough!! #rpg #mitn #mutants

Got all of my copies of @j-k.games 's Mutants in the Now/Next/Archives!! MitN is one of the coolest, most detailed RPGs I've ever read or played. Character creation alone is such an amazing engine for generating interesting and varied PCs that are both randomly generated and meticulously customized
