I won't pretend this isn't a very difficult moment, but so proud of Greens who continue to stand up for trans rights in councils across the UK. This time it was our turn in Oxford! Amazing work by @maxmorris.bsky.social who drafted and proposed the motion www.thisisoxfordshire.co.uk/news/2661155...

'Abuse' and 'intimidation' described as city approves trans rights plan
An Oxford plan to protect trans and non-binary people's rights has been passed amid "abuse" and "intimidation" in a "manufactured moral panic".

There aren't many days when you can kayak off Start Point, renowned for one of Britain's most dangerous tidal races. But yesterday the stars aligned, so I bunked off work. Delighted to see Rupert Kirkwood (the Lone Kayaker) out there. He took this picture of me +1. Before you ask: yes, it's real. 🧵

The image is of a four panel comic.
The first panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, working at a desk. A brain next to her says, "We need to take breaks!"
The second panel zooms in on Sarah's face. She is annoyed. She says, "What if I don't listen to you?"
The third panel shows the brain smiling.
The fourth panel shows the brain reaching towards a lever. The brain says, "I'LL MAKE YOU."

It's very easy to wear a suit and tie in any major city, even if the aesthetic has mostly disappeared from daily life, because there are people outside wearing pink tutus with Army boots. As usual, your liberation is connected to other people's liberation.
Bobby Mars on Twitter writes: "If you wear a collared shirt and nice shoes out to the bar in the rust belt, multiple people will ask you if you just came from a wedding. Aesthetic standards for men’s attire are horrendously low"

Absolutely. Rotating food stocks and especially water is an onerous task (lived experience here). Getting the right mix of food you’d be able to stomach in a crisis, and food you’d could face when you’re rotating is hard too. Can’t govt experts help us?

It’s meant to be a way to flush out claims that aren’t backed up by anecdotes. In practice it rewards people who can tell stories off the cuff, including made-up ones. Unless the job requires this, it’s a poor way to find a match.I pointed this out to an interviewer once, who didn’t like it.

One of the biggest lies politicians sell us is that work is the way out of poverty. Most people receiving benefits are IN WORK. We will never end this “cost of living crisis” until employers are made to pay people liveable wages rather than wages that are subsidised by taxpayers.

It’s the right way round. If you’re healthy and earning, it’s your privilege to share a small amount with others. If you’re ill - especially with a long-term condition - that’s hard enough already, and you shouldn’t be on the hook for medical bills. The NHS is a glory.

Yes, and for freelancers. Even something that sounds simple (eg payment is only in US$), or timesheeting must be done for each individual hour worked, makes it cost more to administer the job than a freelancer gets paid for it.
