Banned Books Week is almost over! The Trump administration had at least 596 books removed from schools serving military families. Don’t forget to get out there and read some of the books they tried to keep off the shelves. Happy Banned Books Week!

CFR: Notably, Americans were split about who they believed bore the burden of tariffs: 41% said they’re a tax citizens pay, and 40% said foreigners pay. *It estimated that consumers pay 2/3 of Trump’s tariffs

No one talks about this enough. I charge my EV at home. I can program it to charge during non-peak hours at a cheaper rate. Doesn't matter what time of day I fill up my truck, I always pay the same amount - unless I wait a day, then it costs more.

The "SI" thing is was intended to provoke this exact sort of sniveling response from the courtiers, to train the oligarchs to humiliate themselves for Trump so they'll do it again later when it really matters.

People don’t realize how “2nd best” hybrids are versus electric. They have most of the downsides of gas vehicles, high maintenance costs and complexity. While it’s great to get better mileage, it’s is nowhere near as reliable and cheap to run as an EV.

Gas cars fall below 50% of global new car sales for the first time
Gas cars are now a minority of the world’s new car sales. Gasoline-only vehicles made up 49% of global new-vehicle sales in the first half of 2026, down from 73% in 2021, according to Mobility Global data first reported by Nikkei. It’s the first time on record that they’ve been under half. But there’s a catch: most of the cars taking their place still have a gas tank. more…

The world at ~1.5°C above preindustrial. Fossil fuel usage continues unabated, pushing more greenhouse gas pollution into the atmosphere, so heating will continue. We are *firmly* on track to pass 2°C We are *absolutely* not prepared for the associated climate chaos.

You can't get anyone in political media to say it plainly, but GOP strategy for several decades now has been built around the fact that its core goals/policies are *wildly unpopular*. Everything depends on a) polluting the information environment, b) cementing unfair structural advantages, & c) $$$.

We are now, without a doubt, the greatest kleptocracy the world has ever known. By virtue of Donald Trump and the Republican Party promising to hate and abuse those people a nation of angry rubes wants to hate and abuse, they have lifted the national wallet and handed it back to the rubes, empty.

Eight of the top ten states leading the country in new solar installations voted for Trump in 2024. Turns out solar panels do not actually care about your party registration. bit.ly/4rsZVq4
Two individuals install solar panels on a rooftop under a clear blue sky. Text overlay reads: "US Solar Can Now Power 50 Million Homes, and Red States Are Building It." The logo "Good Power" is at the top. Beneath, a smaller text states: "Politicians can argue about renewable energy on cable news all day. Meanwhile, back in reality, red states are quietly building the overwhelming majority of America's solar power."

Electric cars and solar are the hedge against this out-of-control energy crisis
A drone strike shut down Saudi Arabia’s East-West oil pipeline this week, knocking roughly 5 million barrels a day offline. That’s about 5% of global supply, and it pushed Brent crude above $104. US diesel is at record highs. That’s the fossil fuel crisis making headlines. The quieter one is on your own utility bill, and it’s not getting better either. more…
