Saw a box that had once contained "the endy matress" at the end of a driveway. Read it as the "the enby matress" at first, which felt oddly specific but it could have been adressing a need i wasn't aware of.

I'll give them a pass on no discernable classification scheme because you don't usually get to look that close, but it'd be really cool to see.

I can't think when i've seen it done right. Nobody ever has records on open shelving, they're always in ancient bankers boxes. The shitty ones. Never use those. You don't see them being signed out, chain of custody on them is going to be for shit. Bad colour coding.

Shit, me too. Thanks. first one that popped in to my head was The Grapes of Wrath, which is a great movie but man does that sound pretentious. Kind of forgot Star Wars predated me.

If we could not use the words "magoo" and "bank" in the same sentence that'd be swell. My wallet has not recovered from the trauma.

I was going down the stairs at work and i suddenly, without warning, remembered that i exist. As you might imagine this was a terrible shock for me. I might need to go lie down.

The ants are pretty good. Now, i personally think the exhibit could use some fancy isopods, but those of course are technically not insects and i guess they aren't necessarily showy

My bullfrog is redecorating his enclosure. He does this sometimes. Today he and i differ as to which way his cork bark hide should face, and african bullfrogs are really big and have very strong legs, so i'll just be sitting here and then i'll see this big half round of cork wander.

Stanhill, Lancashire, 1764. Weaver and Carpenter James Hargreaves invents the Spinning Jenny, the first practical spinning-frame, to make the tedious task of producing cloth a little bit faster. He doesn't know it yet, but this will destroy the world.

Spurred by inventions like his, the industrial revolution will transform everything -- work power, the wealth of nations. Society as we know it began here, and it wasn't great for everyone. But a group of weavers and textile workers saw this future coming. And did their best to prevent it.

And we just kind of stood like that, observing each other. Like the turtle was as interested in me as i was in her, or any other animal i saw that day. Like I was in some way entertaining. It was a cool experience.

But we aren't here to talk about ducks. Lot of turtles around mud lake. And there are observation platforms out off the shore here and there. So i went to one, and there was this huge snapping turtle in the water. Which is a good place for a snapping turtle to be. Watching me.

A few years ago i went for a walk around Mud Lake, which is a conservation area in Ottawa. Wood ducks nest there, which is pretty great but that's not why I'm remarking...though i will add there was a mallard that just decided she was going to follow me around for a while, which was neat.

Shit. I went to university with a woman who had the same name as me but spelled differently. IIRC neither of us found the other particularly attractive, though we like each other fine. Who knows where life would gave gone if our parents had gone with the same spelling.

One time the pet store my dad went to for cat food and aquarium supplies was stocking large bottles of ketchup and mustard because the owner loved relish and he had gotten a deal on caselots that had all three. So proof of concept i guess? Odd guy, but it was a good shop.
