Is there such a thing as an iconic pencil? If there is, then the Berol Venus is arguably it, and I need you to assure me that I'm not strange by being unreasonably excited about finally getting my hands on some.
A selection of sharpened pencils with a green painted exterior, against a green box with gold lettering.

If you know what this means then it's probably time to start taking something for your knees x
Close crop to a corner of a computer software box, featuring a gradient logo with the text "Designed for Intel MMX". Other text is visible on the box though obscured by the crop.

I see what you did there, getting in a little plug. Small wins.

You know those short indie films WeTransfer advertises to you when you're too cheap to pay a subscription? Are they real, do we reckon? Has anyone ever clicked through to watch one and find out?

Tbh Acrobat wins. Click the little text box with the page number in to type in the number of a specific page - y'know, like we have for about 20 years now - and instead it now just opens a popup with another text box that you can actually type in TRY AI

That's wonderful. I don't have the space for much physical media but I want to be offline as much as I can. Next project will be a modified iPod. I love that you're holding on to VCR, that's amazing. Do you have tapes for it too?

Hoarding obsolete Apple products is totally normal, yes?
A collection of Apple products on a wooden surface includes an iPhone in a dock displaying app icons, a white iPod with wired earbuds, and a dark translucent mouse, and Apple G4 Cube computer. Boxes show text such as ‘iPhone’, ‘iSight’, ‘Mac OS X’, and a partial ‘iPod’, with Apple logos visible. An open iBook G4 laptop displays an iTunes interface with a song list and an atom graphic, resting on a wooden surface. Behind it, the back of an iPad shows an Apple logo and the word ‘iPad’. An iSight camera on its stand and vintage iPhone are positioned nearby. In the background are product boxes for MacOS X, iPod Socks and iSight camera.

It was such a good phone. I still have mine somewhere. The rubber coating is deteriorating now which must've been a manufacturing defect as they can't possibly be that old.

Anyway I had a couple of weeks away from Bluesky, I didn't think I could see much point in being here but the more I thought about it the more I realised I just can't see the point in being alive a lot of the time and since I'm stuck with that for the time being I might as well hang about here too 🥰

Gobowen railway station - once a key interchange for Oswestry and mid Wales on the GWR Shrewsbury to Chester branch - looking absolutely splendid, fully restored to its period paint scheme thanks to @railwayheritage.bsky.social. Bonus Rail Alphabet (I think 🤞) for @doublearrow64.bsky.social

Yeah I can see where you're going with this but I'm not sure Zoe Ball and 'peak Radio 2' are ever going to exist in the same universe. Two out of three ain't bad though.

I didn't own this model but oh boy this brought back so many good memories of having Dell laptops for work in the early 2000s. Everything from the colour coded I/O ports to the modular components for upgrading. Add the dock and carry bag and I don't think we appreciated then just how good we had it.

Interstellar. I feel bad even saying so because I know that there's people on here who I've a lot of time for and who love it. I've tried more than once and it gets worse with every attempt. I'm sorry.

Could it be your toner drum? Might be worth checking for your printer make and model as to whether or not the drum can be cleaned.

It's just the way that tech can't let any one platform do something well. Everything has to do everything, with every type of content. They can't just let long form video live on YouTube, no we have to have it shoehorned into what was primarily a low-cost audio format. It's exhausting.

Listening to two mediocre celebrities laugh at each other continually for 25 minutes is bad enough without having to see it on video too.

I could be wrong, but didn't podcasts come along as the iPod became popular, as an audio thing? Seem to recall video ones trying to become popular later but they didn't take off partly because "vodcast" was a stupid name but mostly because they were shit.

Oh crumbs, that's a big move. I've been Apple since the start and will happily welcome you over if you do switch. It's not so bad, I promise. It's not amazing either, I can't lie to you, but at least their approach to privacy and AI feels a bit more reassuring. For now.

iTunes Match was really good for that. Load CDs into your computer, if they existed on the iTunes Store then it'd just give you the high bitrate digital version rather than import the disc - and let you download with the DRM removed. Made populating my own server nice and easy 👌

I'm starting to think that by watching a generation of disaster movies we've all been unwittingly deceived into believing that world leaders will actually try to do something to save the planet when things start rapidly going to shit.
