Yup, that was just a pain in the tail as I expected. I really got to not do more of these because it just sucks.

Getting somewhere. Hardest part is attaching the zipper so that’s gonna wait till after food.

060

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 02/09/2026

Apparently I just want to cause myself suffering. (I’m doing it again)

1100

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 26/08/2026

I might not suck at this.

6201

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 25/08/2026

Was waiting on better tuners, that was the correct choice.

060

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 25/08/2026

Getting into the fiddily bits again with the key box. Waiting on a new set of main string tuners before I can start tensioning things.

070

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 22/08/2026

Every clamp? Yes? Yes.

0130

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 21/08/2026

Making it match the Gurdy in vibe because why not.

2140

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 20/08/2026

We continue to do the clamp. This one is substantially less complicated.

There's GOTTA be a joke in here about "But can you store a DOOM .wad in it?" But I think @gato.gay already did that research for me.

100 degrees out? Perfect time to stain wood. Nearly heatstroke myself? Also yes.

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 13/08/2026

Before the next large project, time to replace the tuners with something a little more classical.

130

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 31/07/2026

Yes it’s that time again for more fun things you can do with math.

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 27/07/2026

Someone remind me never to make a bag that complicated again, thanks.

190

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 26/07/2026

Swapped tubing pegs for nicer ones and am making a gig bag for the Gurdy… which is making me remember how much I hate doing 4 side flush pockets on panel bags.

Davinci resolve glitch transition is so funny cause i see it everywhere, its become the wilhelm scream of video editors.

Key box cover installed. Still work to be done on it and the tuning of all the tangents. I need a better contact mic for my tuner

2120

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 12/07/2026

Got it to sing its first awkward notes late last night. Realized that it was reverb echoing down the hallway and maybe not tune it at 0130hours. Now, today is tuning time; when I’m not going to wake the neighbors with how actually loud this thing is.

Starting to actually look like something.

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 10/07/2026

Now begins all the fiddly bits.

Improvised varnish drying solutions.

0120

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 07/07/2026

Would you like every clamp I own, yes.

0110

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 06/07/2026

Because you can just do things. Waiting on stain to cure and then it’s onto making those parts one.

2110

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 06/07/2026

Starting to finally look like a thing.

0140

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 04/07/2026

Water bending (no not like that. Not like that either…) wood finishes and more clamps as the internal skeleton is taking shape.

1100

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 03/07/2026

Would you like, sum CLAMP

3110

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 02/07/2026

Now to let all that dry fully.

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 02/07/2026

Someone called this an “old man hobby”, I call it finally making an instrument I’ve wanted since I was 5 with my own two paws.

Continuing on with the “you can just do things”; Hurdy Gurdy time.

A pile of laser cut “flat pack ikea Hurdy Gurdy parts on a table surrounded by an absurd number of clamps of many varieties.

2140

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 29/06/2026

You too can just make things because why no one offers an orange canvas zipper close hood is beyond me.

3120

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 26/06/2026

It’s the same answer for Skyrim btw.

Fixing some of the issues that cropped up on the test sail. A proper center board downhaul with jam cleat, and a tiller clutch to keep the rudder from hard overing under its own weight. Along with another friendly reminder that “boat yard smokes don’t count”.

Back with some more “quick maths” about a highly requested subject.

Having a “family of axes” wasn’t on my bucket list however the necessity of firewood during future camping adventures has made me that cat.

Your yearly reminder that Pride started as a riot. Happy Pride everyone!

Free Gato lore; the car in the background is the same make and model of my first irl car. Was wild to see one in #vrchat

Swapped some elbows from pvc to brass and added some hanging basket storage. Soon we hit the water.

Decided I wasn’t too tired to make a new overstrike protector for my axe which I beat the brakes off this weekend. It served me well, so let’s treat it to some good craftsmanship.

Sunset Gato @gato.gay · 25/05/2026

I couldn’t have asked for better friends and random strangers to come together to overcome “firewood provided” in the wet 12-24 inch round log walnut variety so we could be one of a few encampments to have a functional kitchen this weekend. Hats off to everyone breaking their backs and axes.
