Enjoyed the latest grumblings from Arab Strap. Musically feels a little freer than the last album I heard of theirs. A bit more room to wallow in.

It felt like Dolly was deeply unfashionable in my corner of the world when I was growing up. (Iirc 9 to 5 was the only song with ongoing radio play). How wrong we were and how little we knew about her and her music. It took me years to catch up. RIP to one of the best.

This is great - the early 80s Brisbane (ie the Joh years) band The Billy Mummies have just released their debut album after their 1983 demos surfaced and were released by the singer's son. Synth with some driving guitars. It's a bop.

I recorded track 4. I also recorded track 5 at a different venue (according to my mp3 version of the same release which I just found). I don't remember doing either. I do remember playing a metal disc on a stick with the core duo at an entirely different gig. The sum total of my live music career.

This is half remembered stuff but I read once that when the Goodies did the Funky Gibbon it was Bill Oddie, a fan of actual funk and soul, who said look this has to go as hard as possible, it can't *just* be us singing a silly song. RIP
