I think it was on TV down here when I was a kid. Forgot all about it.

I almost nominated the track, but decided not to as we had it before and thought someone else would. Which I am not complaining about.

I remember hearing that McFerrin track later in the decade and being enthralled by the vocal gymnastics if too young for the lyrical intentions. So a vote for nostalgia. The other three aren't doing it for me.

Went patriotic and voted for Coloured Stone (I'd nommed a different track from the the album), which stopped me throwing a vote to Last Exit, which would be my normal inclination.

Voted Mr Fingers but bonused Hollywood Beyond to add some Englishness to the conversation. Apparently it peaked at number 7 in the UK charts. Not sure we heard it down here though.

That is one of 2 (the other being The Life of the World To Come) which I am still to catch up on from Tallahassee onwards. I missed all the 2010 ones and didn't start catching up again until the Covid years.

Now I've said that I've had to go and listen to exotica space synth mashup The Wind Chimes for the first time in many many years, and only now have worked out a chunk of Flying Start is used in it - an old Oldfieldian trick.

Most obscure think I heard in a shopping centre playlist in the Noughties was one of the singles off Mike Oldfield's Islands - I can't remember if it was Magic Tough or Flying Start. I don't think I ever heard it anywhere else in Australia ever except when I heard the parent album.

Any chance of an honorary Might Sparrow track from the decade as a 5th choice in one group? His albums from the era were: A Touch of Class (1986) One Love One Heart (1987) Dr Bird (1988)

From 1990 we get to Archie Roach, Ruby Hunter, Tiddas, best known Yothu Yindi, Christina Anu. Plus away from Indigenous stuff, Marcia and Deni Hines separately, and have to make a call on Vika and Linda Bull.

Did anyone else bonus Australuan tunes? From memory people have before. Though this era is just before things explode.

At least one jazz track was mained, so at least one full group would be fair. And jazz tracks have slipped through a few rounds before. (The Necks are the 50th best track of 2025!)

The 85 version is a different recording. This one is far more polished and better produced and was on the album which won the ARIA award.

The BAD track was a rare Don Letts main vocal. I mained Auatralian tracks in previous BMM polls and just wanted to do something different. There will be a load of Australian options for the next one.

Thanks to Triple J's then breakfast announcer loving this, it was well heard Australia at the time (I bought it as a result). This is also the reason why their live EP was recorded down here.

Hmm, might have found jazz tracks, which are gloriously inevitable in the BPMH polls. (That said my memory of the composition is from a live set 5 years later with the white dude from the 89 set as lead.)

Enjoyed the latest grumblings from Arab Strap. Musically feels a little freer than the last album I heard of theirs. A bit more room to wallow in.

But agree its time as a narrative has past. Not sure my kids would relate. The Sirius Cybernetics Company, for instance, feels too tame as a tech company these days for instance.
