I have this odd thing where my in-laws didn't want me to call them Mr or Mrs (too formal), but also were not comfortable with first names. I've been married over 20 years, and I still have to call them Maria's Dad or Maria's Mam (or now Grandma and Grandad). I've never used their first names

Hmmmm. Well no surprise I disagree a bit here I guess! One issue being that civil servants don’t get to put their side across in the same way. Also feels selective: advisors focus on SoS priorities so they feel like the most important thing. But the world keeps turning in other areas

See - a good argument for more homeworking! 😀 You don't actually end up trying to physically move civil servants! Those leading on the equalities brief were particularly vulnerable to being punted around Whitehall

MoG changes always complicate things. I remember that towards the end of the last Labour government they happened so regularly that officials hadn't changed from one MoG processes before the next kicked in!

Given the proliferation of St George's Flags recently, and some of the clearly unsavoury connotations motivating some, it got me thinking: what are the alternative flag options? So I wrote a short blog. medium.com/@carduelis/w...

'Storm Bigoil' sounds like a detective in a pulp fiction novel: "Storm Bigoil walked into the bar and warily eyed the clientele. His eyes settled on a tall blonde leaning on the cold marble counter, little knowing that she was the mysterious dame, Humidity Rising, who was paying for his services."

On point in my view. The current theory of change for teacher/leader development-that expertise is held externally & evidence is all-sidelines the expertise and contextual understanding within the sector. Perhaps we should ask, if CPD doesn’t serve educators on the ground, who exactly is it serving?

Getting appraisal right - ensuring it is truly developmental and trusted - can make the difference between keeping and improving somebody, or watching them become more frustrated and disengaged. In a world of recruitment and retention crises, it is so important to do it well

This is an important part of the Schools Bill. It isn't anti-uniform, but helps to to make sure uniform is affordable for all and counter the rise in the number of branded (expensive) items. Do schools really need branded trousers, for example? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

This whole billionaire-slash-model space tourist thing isn’t a victory for women at all. It's misogynistic and insulting. While NASA (kneeling to this administration) is erasing the real contributions, the true heroism, the incredible impact women have truly had on the Space Program and science.
