I keep getting this very specific sensation when playing Control Resonant that's like: 'this is the one and only time I'll get to play this for the first time, so relax, concentrate, appreciate, fall into it.' Felt this way playing Clair Obscur, TOTK, Death Stranding 2. Just: the really good shit.

Shout out to @remedygames.com for listening to feedback & adding difficulty sliders to Control 1&2. Remedy's idea of base difficulty is about +20% on mine, I've found—being able to tune it improves the experience immeasurably. Everyone is different. There is no cookie cutter player. This is the way.

It's baffling how so many cold-call PR emails misunderstand what a PR email is for. If you're brusquely offering 80mb of b-roll & outlining the embargo before I know what the game is, you've lost me already. My advice is: don't assume we're interested. Engage more actively. Make us interested!

Played the first five hours of CONTROL: Resonant tonight. Opened a cold drink when I sat down, when I got it up was exactly where I'd put it, still full, now warm. A very absorbing game.

I retired from doing Wordle on the day I failed to get "pshaw". It felt like time to stop, vividly. The game was saying one thing—or its NYT editor was, I suppose—but what I'd heard was: "You know, five minutes a day is not inconsiderable when you add it up over a decade." Couldn't unhear it. Pshaw.

Onimusha's combat rules. Love how smashing a torch on the wall here takes two enemies out the fight, giving me time to consume a bunch of souls and unleash a huge attack on the others (and then get comedy-papped by an arrow in my moment of triumph).

It was eye opening going through Sony's 25-26: the cuts, cancellations, layoffs, and misfires; cancelled GoW, Spider-Man, TLOU2 multiplayer, Concorde, Hunter's Gathering, Bluepoint, London Studio, PSVR2, gutting Bungie, fumbling Kojima—they're making ~winning the console wars look like a rough time.

Ed Sheeran reportedly feels "thrown under the bus" after his whole tour quit. But that's a bizarre abdication of responsibility. He has autonomy, and chose his response. He chose to try and "good people on both sides" a genocide. He didn't need to be thrown, he jumped under the bus all by himself.

"IP" is a gross term to use for creative work (unless you're an entertainment lawyer or something). The rotted legal framework of ownership that something exists within does not reflect its true nature. Use better words.

The time it took the perception of Sony to go from undisputed winners of the console wars to a husk of a company starting its inevitable decline can be measured in one fumbled Kojima project and a Metacritic 78.

Did y'all hear the rumour that some companies are making AI trailers & websites for games that don't exist, and launching them on high profile showcases to see if anyone is interested before commiting to development? Idk if this is like a known thing, but I was taken aback. Next level vapourware.

It's funny that "condemned" is the word that used for a dangerous building, huh. Like a surveyor has to stand outside of it giving a speech to the media about its disgracingful slumping roof and shamefully decrepit load-bearing columns.

Played a few hours of Onimusha. The action is tight, it looks great, and the characters have a fun pulp cinema vibe. Game stories often have the X-Man movie problem of being entirely unserious while grasping for gravitas that... isn't there. Onimusha knows it's silly. Extra points for that.

The director of Ori and No Rest For The Wicked is awful. He compared cancel culture—that is, social & professional consequences for abusers when the law fails—to the holocaust. His new anti-critic review platform will formalise racist, sexist review bombing as a feature, not a bug. Fuck this guy.

YouTube changed what a "view" is. People used to have to watch for a while to count as a view; now, views are counted even if they leave on 0:01. So "views" are up, but mean less—they're more like "clicks". It's nonsense, and must mean they want to monetise against view counts in some new way.

There is kind of no way GTAVI could live up to its hype level. It's like people are expecting a UFO to fly out of their screen and grant them eternal life, rather than running around picking up side quests, getting new outfits, and looking in your inventory now and then like every other game.

This new Plague Tale game looks nice, but is very dull. It doesn't ask or answer any new questions as a game, or as a story. It kinda sucks to be playing an adventure game and find yourself thinking: "This seems like a sensible product to have created. I see why you did this."
