Software hardware hacky guy. I like game programming, old cameras, old AV equipment, woodworking, cats, techno remixes of Touhou music, and that one Garfield panel where Jon asks why they call it oven I made an open source console: gametank.zone

Parts prices getting so bad I'm 3D printing a hard drive I guess???

After I replace the sticky tape holding the cassette head with actual M2 screws, next step is to try a few different ways of coating the disc in oxide.
3D printed CD spinner, a squat black rectangular shelf supports an axle with a clear disc mounted on the end. A blue truss tower attached to the same base plate holds aloft an adjustable arm with a cassette head taped to the end of it. The cassette head is positioned over the clear disc.

All packed up bye PAX West it was a fun weekend tabling!
My helper (who gave permission to post photo but not name) waving from behind a CRT TV with a drawing of a waving cat and the text "PAX is over go home ;)" and a GameTank plugged in to the TV with a mouse and keyboard and paddle controller plugged into the GameTank also theres a partially visible banner in the back with text fragment "urce 8-bit console" in view

Quite a bit sturdier with card brackets
Backplane connected to GameTank console with 3D printed baseplate on backplane and printed brackets on the two cards. Two devices are plugged in to the cards, one with a green plug and one with purple. One of the LEDs on yhe cards is lit.

second try at a PCB for the PS/2 adapter. notably, it abandons the daisy-chained DB26 connectors but also incorporates fixes that will hopefully make the multiplexing scheme work. also also this version is two layers so I can get the board faster

I dunno man this chatbot stuff doesnt seem to be getting me anywhere
ELIZA: Please tell me what's been bothering you.
YOU: I want to connect an IDE hard drive to my 6502-based game console
ELIZA: Your 6502-based game console ?
YOU: It's a modern take on 8-bit systems thats designed to be built by hobbyists from currently available components
ELIZA: But your 6502-based game console.
YOU: Yes it uses two 6502 chips
ELIZA: I see.

This is fun now I designed a small one with fewer pins, and a bit narrower for breadboards. Also made this one four layers (the other one is two) to make routing easier.

the conducted scan also looks good, the two peaks at 14 and 28MHz on the red line were cited as the only issues in the conducted scan. now they're both under the previous sample's noise floor :D
screenshot from spectrum analyzer showing red and green graph lines, which are somewhat close on the left side but diverge on the right. also the two largest peaks on the red line are much smaller on the green line

hey this might actually pass!

Any EEs who follow me and know stuff like proper line termination for EMC? I unfortunately have no idea what magic arrangement of resistors and capacitors I need to add to reduce my radiated power.

great for adding all these decoupling caps though
