In an antique store I ran into this doll furniture with a very Osamu Tezuka-looking illustration. I suppose it could be contemporary enough for anime to be broadly popular, but it’s interesting to think about it pulling on mid century localized shows, or parallel style evolution by the artist.
A photo of some doll furniture. Primarily, a wooden wardrobe with two panel doors. One features a mirror, the other is painted tomato red and has an illustration of a girl in a pink and blue baby doll dress with a blue shawl. The proportions and facial features are reminiscent of female character designs used by Osamu Tezuka.

after two years of bargaining thanks to activision's stall tactics, unionized workers have authorized a strike. I spoke to them, as well as an ex-employee with disability issues who was basically forced out of the company due to the return-to-office policies the union has been trying to fight
“I repeatedly received essentially the same answer [from Activision]: that working in the office was considered an essential function of my position and that the company would not meaningfully consider remote work,” Kunze said. “I have watched coworkers struggle with similar issues involving accommodations, attendance, return-to-office expectations, AI uncertainty, outsourcing fears, and inconsistent treatment. Employees frequently tell each other they are exhausted. Many stay quiet because they fear retaliation. Some leave.”

Near his wit’s end in 2025, Kunze gathered documentation of his experience and filed complaints with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights and the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Then came multiple internal investigations of Kunze’s conduct from company brass in 2026, which to Kunze felt retaliatory.

"Employees frequently tell each other they are exhausted. Many stay quiet because they fear retaliation. Some leave."

this is one thing where it's gonna be hard for people doing this by hand to continue to derive meaning from AI is just automatically "solving" problems people have been working on in teams for years in a matter of hours + barging into open source repositories & stealing / "helping" their work

I think ultimately what determines whether a tool (a camera, spray paint, turntables, etc) can find creative legitimacy is whether it can find a way to show care.

Hey, the CMU Press Games series is live. We've been planning this for a couple years, but it's amazing to be at this point. Submit your Anthropocene-themed games about humans + nonhumans + technology in our weird (post)modern/future times, for a new *peer-reviewed* anthology series.

The cover of the RPG rulebook for Mage: The Ascension. "MAGE" is written in big gold letters, and there is a tarot card entitled "The Mage" with imagery based on the card "The Magician" from the Rider-Waite tarot deck, resting on a rumpled purple cloth.

A speech bubble extends downward from the card, as if to say the quoted post.

I thought I had at least passing familiarity with conspiracy theories until the man sitting next to me at the Lebanon, OH Skyline told me “space ain’t real.” “What do you think is between us and the moon?” an employee asked. The man seemed to think about this for a moment. “The moon…is with us.”

TRUE STORY: I wasn’t allowed to take the bus as a kid (parental fears during the crime-obsessed 90’s), and never learned bus etiquette. Playing THANK YOU BUS DRIVER really, truly made me a better passenger, citizen, and human being. That’s a lot for FIVE SMACKERS!

I hope you’ll read my story about AI programming in the context of amateur, personal computing (and to that end, here’s a gift link: tinyurl.com/2hf9hv4v). But this paragraph is the one I’d pull out if I had to choose one.
Excerpt from an Atlantic article by Ian Bogost:

This makes the aesthetics of vibe coding entirely familiar to programmers. The moment-to-moment experience of coding feels the same, but you do so at a greater remove. Realizing this made me understand why programmer types might find generative AI so immediately compelling, and also why they might not grasp the objections of people in other walks of life who oppose it. Using AI to create prose or illustrations seems to erase the experience of the writer or artist and their participation in the act of creation. It clobbers the process in favor of the outcome. But for a programmer, the outcome and the process improve all at once. Nothing about AI programming feels like a compromise or cheat. It just feels like programming.

If anyone was going to do this, it was Epic. With their planned changes to how Unreal Engine integrates AI into the core of the scripting workflow, they're arguably betting their business on this being a better way to make games, and not just for solo indies, but for AAA licensed IP devs.
A bluesky post by me, from ~3 months ago. It reads:

Sweeney is in a perfect position to task small groups of his own employees to make AI-assisted games to release on the Unreal Store and prove that there are workflows that make sense for small teams and produce commercially viable games normal people love, but can't or wont.
