What are your favorite #Adobe Creative Suite alternatives? I don't want to pay $70 a month anymore if I can help it. Most immediately, I'm looking for #Lightroom and #Photoshop alternatives, although I'll need recommendations for #Illustrator, #Premiere, and #AfterEffects, too.

A friend waited in a line to meet his favorite singer. For an hour, he agonized over exactly how he’d congratulate her on her newfound success. He gets to the front of the line and nervously blurts out “I’m happy you’re finally getting what you deserve!” …He was promptly whisked off by security.

Tomorrow! My solo show, "Rare Earth," opens at La Luz de Jesus Gallery! @laluzdejesus.bsky.social This one's called "Alarm Call V," one of a series of absurdist little vignette drawings of birds & rusty old fog horns symbolizing nature's warning signs about climate change #traditionalart #drawing

Rare Earth, drawings by Brian R. Williams, Friday, September 5 at La Luz de Jesus Gallery

"Alarm Call V," graphite on toned paper. A pair of brant geese fly past a fog horn with 5 horns of various sizes, each facing in a different direction. The horns emerge from the top of a rust-stained cylindrical concrete structure built among an archipelago of sharp-edged triangular rocks. Visible at the base of the structure are metal pipes, wheels and drums of uncertain function.

A photo of "Alarm Call V" matted and framed in a gold wooden frame.

Working on the next piece. Not totally sure how I feel about it yet- but that’s part of the fun in these: I might go in with a plan, but I the material doesn’t always act like I expect. I have to be open to some improv. #fusedglass #glassart #oaklandartist

Update: I’ve repaired it twice now. Last time, it was so close to being finished before I found a hairline crack in it. I’ve fixed it, and polishing it again- hopefully just one more time. Fi gets crossed… #fusedglass #glassart

This one has been a pain in the butt. Broken twice while I was working on it. But I think I’ve not only saved it, but made it better! …Let’s just hope it survives the last round of polishing. #fusedglass #glassart #oaklandartist

In all seriousness, I’d submit the shot of Lavinia from Julie Taymor’s Titus (Dec 1999). It’s so gorgeously shot, but the subject matter is too disturbing for me to post. It’s the one cinematic image that’s haunted me since I first saw it.

The ending of Felix the Cat’s first (and last?) appearance, I kid you not. This is after he’s discovered he’s the father of a litter of kittens. 1919’s Feline Follies.

Happy Portfolio Day! Here's a sample of my traditional-media work. You can see more on my website: brianrwilliams.com #portfolioday #traditionalart

A pencil drawing showing a young boy asleep next to a creek in the woods. Watching the boy sleeping are three fantastical creatures made of moss. A rabbit rests beside the boy, an owl is perched on the shoulder of one of the moss men, and a white-tailed deer watches the scene from behind a tree trunk.

The final piece that I’ll be selling this summer. This was the first panel I created of the five, and it might be my favorite piece I’ve ever made. It was as an experiment to use up scrap glass left over from the large installation panels. #fineart #glassart #fusedglass #oaklandartist

Got back from the Italy/France trip and sorting through photos. It’s always humbling (and more than a little discouraging) to see how many bad photos i took. But eventually, I find the good ones and suddenly, I feel like a decent photographer again! Editing your work is an underestimated skill.

Of the 5 pieces I’ll be selling this summer, this one most resembles the panels from the full installation. I learned a lot after making 25 of these for the installation, so this one-off is even more refined than the ones in the installation. #fineart #glassart #fusedglass #oaklandartist

I have come to love creating white-on-white pieces. With such a minimal palette, their subtle color shifts and changes in opacity become more apparent. This is the third panel of five which I will be selling in late summer. #glassart #fusedglass #abstract #oaklandartist #glassfusing

The second Limerent Object I’ll be selling later this summer. In Limerence, yellow triangles represent hope. Making these helped me through some difficult times, and have become a sort of meditative practice. They are my version of prayers for protection & peace. #glassart #fusedglass #oaklandart

The first of 5 pieces I’ll be selling later this summer. These are offshoots of a project called “Limerence”. Its pieces large and meant for an industrial space, but I’ve made smaller works (“Limerent Objects”) to fund the full project and to experiment with new techniques. #glassart #fusedglass
