100%! When I got my coil they had a little model, and she was so excited that I was excited about it - also the only doc who was like "hey we're seeing more patients with your condition, can you tell me about it" rather than "this condition is out of my specialty and therefore has no impact"

Hildegard has no time for weasels. She claims she deplores them for the sake of her ancient cockatrice ancestry. #Boktober Hen and Weasel. Ink on Fabriano Medioevalis, 95 × 64 mm.
Drawing mostly in black ink, primarily in silhouette, of a hen with feathers puffed and hackles raised, facing a least weasel standing on a fallen branch in the grass. The hen's comb and wattle are the only touch of red gouache.

This week you can find The Scale of a Man, my illustrated reflection on craft, grief, and inheritance, on @therumpus.net. Thank you @marinaomi.bsky.social for believing in this piece and getting it further into the world. Read the whole thing here: therumpus.net/2026/10/13/t...
The Scale of a Man, by Lucy Bellwood. In clean, black and blue artwork, a small man in plaid stands between two incoming waves, looking up at a model tall ship in a glass case. Two hands, drawn in clean, black and blue artwork, hold a pen above a penciled page in progress showing a boat and colonists in pencil. The narration says "Okay, Lucy. You can do this."The previous pencilled page is now fully rendered in black and blue. A square rigged sailing ship plunges through the sea in the top panel. It's December, 1732. The merchantman Anne is somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic, bound for Yamacraw Bluff. A colonial family look toward the horizon. She carries 114 souls under the leadership of General James Oglethorpe. These English colonists will populate the future state of Georgia. Most survive the crossing, but some do not. The last image of the page shows two small, shrouded bodies plunging below the waves.General Oglethorpe, in wig and greatcoat, writes at a desk on January 13th, 1733. "We have lost none of our people except the youngest son of Richard Cannon, aged eight months, and the youngest son of Robert Clarke, aged one year and an half. Those were so far gone that all our efforts to save them were in vain." In a similar posture, Lucy sits at her drawing table, a hole cut clean through her chest with the light from her anglepoise lamp shooting through it to illuminate a small box of ashes on the table behind her. Narration reads: My dad died while I was working on this comic. I should probably mention that up front. It's impossible to make anything right now that's not full of his absence. In the panel below, the colonists are now in a small rowboat, headed for the distant coast. The colonists' story rolls on, full of the stuff of textbooks. But I can't stop thinking about those two boys.

I recently made the Born Slippy shawl by Beata Jezek with a colour combo like this and really enjoyed the yarns together! Great choice

I also made a delicious cake! And saw good art with friends! And advanced some projects that have been in the works for literal years! And looked at lovely leaves! It's been a pretty good autumn so far
A sculpture of big chunks of reddish earth snaking down a long table, slowly turning smaller until it's sandy grains, ending in a highly polished ball of the same. There's a prominent "please do not touch" sign in the foregroundThree free-hanging pieces of fabric, each pieced together of smaller, translucent pieces, in brown, grey, and pale shades respectively.Delicate white shapes of fungal spores, with countless interwoven tiny tendrils reaching out form the centre, cut from paper, on a dark blue wallThree rows of seven glass plates, each with vague organic shapes in shades of brown, blue and black

I feel like last year I got to read some great non-fiction that I've not quite managed to replicate this year, between the replication crisis and romanticisation of the natural world, I struggle to find stuff I'm interested in that I also trust. Recommendations welcome!

Also: my knitting. I finally managed to get close to the size I wanted. By knitting it two sizes smaller. I don't know either but I've stopped asking questions and am simply grateful. Am on the second colour sheep now!
A very patient cat model nestled in soft blankets, with five inches of jumper draped over him. There's a finished bottom rib and one row of black sheep on green, with a second row of dark brown in progress

So, some things I have enjoyed lately! First and foremost, having a cat in the house. We can't really have our own bc allergies, but I love having a furry guy around at least for short stints, especially as he's mellowed out and is way more snuggly these days
Grey cat with a small white breast patch chilling on a couch cushion. His little pink tongue is out and one of his ears is being scritched, so he's cocked his head to one side and has one eye closed, like he's giving a mischievous wink

I personally think we should be moving toward paying artists to make replicas of many art objects for purposes of repatriation, but accessibility is another great reason to have touchable art objects.

He had to have jaw surgery a few years back (but he's fine now!) so his tongue hangs out a lot and it's utterly delightful
Same grey cat, showing off a small white patch in his chest and a very head empty expression with his tongue hanging out adorablyIn this one he's asleep with both front paws stretched out in front of his face. His tongue is just barely visible. He's crouching between a keyboard and a monitor in this one, looking back over his shoulder with the face of a cat seeing a bird for the very first time. Tongue? Out.

Updated my autumn mask chain from all pumpkins to a more diverse set! Not sure yet if I like the combo of solid colours and mixed ones, maybe I'll replace the leaf with something smaller and darker? But I'll wear it for a bit before deciding
A thin metal chain with lobster clasps at each end to go onto a face mask. Four tatted motifs hang from it in regular intervals: a green and brown leaf, an orange pumpkin, a red and white mushroom, and a green and red apple
